Default AC Compressor

Not sure if its the compressor or clutch that is failing. But I have had my AC compressor replaced numerous times. First a rebuilt, failed within warranty period and replaced with another, failed as well. Went with a new one, failed as well, replaced under warranty and this time failed just beyond warranty. Is there something else that could cause my compressor and or clutch to be constantly failing?

Not sure why you are replacing the compressor constantly. They don't go bad just like that. In fact, most A/C problems is the clutch and not the compressor. Did you properly put the right amount of refrigerant?

I was just reading into this. It could be the drier. It helps to filter contaminants out of the system. I would replace that!

My A/C compressor clutch is not getting voltage. 1997 3500. The A/C Compressor Clutch Replay in the Integrated Power Module is recieving voltage from the Powertrain control module and actuating, but there is no voltage present to send to the compressor clutch.

Chilton's does not contain a good schematic of the A/C wiring. There must be a fuse but it's not in the IPM or Junction block. Maybe it's time to get a better manual with A/C schematics. Thanks in advance, Grim.

Check for current at the (inline) high pressure switch.

If there isn't sufficient refrigerant in the system the switch won't tell the compressor to kick on.

Went to NAPA this morning a the parts girl printed a wiring diagram for me. A 20 amp fuse is shown, identified as "B" in the IPM. Checked every 20 amp fuse and the last one was blown. The fuse identified as "horn" on the lid of the IPM. With a meter determined this "horn" fuse also feeds the compressor clutch.

Now to find out what is blowing this fuse. A/C compressor replacement was probably not needed. Thanks for the support.

Grim
