Default Please tell me about HO cams

I have asked here lately and others also have asked, then the thread goes into ignore oblivion. I know not everyone will know the answer and maybe I am in the wrong section for this. Please tell me what happened to the HO cams for 03 4.7l motor. I have seen online that they were discontinued, but so far no explanation and no options given... Info on this please

Just like you said, no one is making them, they are discontinued. With that engine no longer made, probably slim chance that those cams will be made again IMO.

You could probably still do custom regrinds though for a few hundred bucks. Just have to supply the originals for them to grind. May also require lash adjuster shimming or lash caps or something since the cams will be ground smaller. I'm considering doing this with my 08+ 4.7L since no one makes cams for it.

Ok cool thanks. Seems strange they would just stop with a still seemingly healthy demand.

Honestly I only see people come on here maybe a handful of times a year wanting them. I don't think the demand is there and that's why they stopped because they weren't making any money.

I got a quote from crane or comp a few months ago for regrinds it wasn't that bad, like $200 or $400 or something like that total.

On the regrinds part how would you account for the fact overall there is not as much cam as there used to be... Would that create space that is not originally there and thereby creating more possible problems down the road... I thing as for HLA's and springs they can adjust to a certain extent but what about other space being created that might allow the cam to rattle around... Not sure if I am explaining it right, hopefully you understand what Im asking... I just dont want to settle for a regrind to find out later that I have only bought time and created another problem for myself... I was thinking maybe putting another type engine into my truck if possible... Maybe a 5.2 or something?

No you are correct the cam has a smaller diameter with a regrind. To make up for this in a typical engine(not overhead cam) you would get longer pushrods or tighten down the rocker arms more. I ASSume on this overhead cam engine you could either shim the lash adjusters(lifters) to make up this difference, OR buy lash caps that sit between the lash adjutsers and cam fulcrum(rocker) or whatever it's called on the OHC engine.
