I stand corrected, was thinking more along the line of a 'swarm' of thieves (don't know where exodus came from... oh yeah, Marley), but I like plethora better...

Thanks for the info, it's a simple, yet cheap mod that can prevent a major replacement of your tailgate

Hey guys, I can tell you that we too are experiencing the same issue. What we are finding as well is that these clowns are remoiving the rear tail lights..... Several dealer lots have been hit and several tailgates have been taken...

Also with that said, they are also removing the tires and rims off new vehicles parked in dealer lots. We have put out several alerts to the general public and dealers so hoping that everyone locks their tailgates and uses their locking lug nuts.......

Hmmmmm what would happen if you came out and found some guy taking your tailgate?????? Well enough said.....

That is great idea. Glad my truck has a locking tailgate, it stays locked 24/7 too. I wish i could leave the tailgate down but thieves are the reason I don't. The average joe will pass on trying to steal one that's locked thankfully. The pros however, your not going to stop them. More than likely they are going to take the whole truck quicker than you think. I watched a show a while back where a guy with a camera went out with pro car thiefs, I was amazed. They stole a chevy truck with an alarm installed, it was a late 90's model or early 2000 model i think. They had some kind of computer that would access the ECU...Anyways these guys were driving off with the truck in about a minute. They took it to a garage and stripped it to the frame in under 12 hours. They went to junkyard and bought a salvaged frame and cab, then rebuilt the truck with the stolen parts in one day. they had a clear vin and title from the junkyard frame and were able to sell the truck legally free and clear!

I lock my tailgate. Hose clamps might be a god deterrent too. If that fails, i got a .38. I wonder if they are willing to die for one?

Friend has a F-150 'King Ranch". His tailgate was stolen. About 3k to replace (Insurance)
Common item to 'walk off' here in H-town.

My 09 SLT came w/tailgate lock. Had an aftermarket lock on my prior truck.

The hose clamp is a great idea, no doubt about it, but it doesn't protect your tail lights.

With Dealers losing tailgates (and rims) off the lot, I can fully understand why they would 'clamp' a new truck.

I think the intent is to use some sort of clamp in addition to the OE lock. Locks can always be picked/broken into. The Master Lock looks pretty stout::

McGard also makes one, but it seems to be a glorified hose clamp.
