Default What Would You Guys Recommend???

My truck is a 1995 1500, sits on 35s, single cab short bed, 5" lift, 360 v8, auto trans, flowmaster muffler back to a dual exhaust. That's the only mod this truck has is the exhaust. I have been looking in to buying a CAI, headers, catalytic converters, chips etc.. to give me a little more pep. My budget is not very big (under $1000). I was wondering as far as the parts I listed what would you recommend? Is k&n better than afe? Is pacesetter better than summit generic? What do you guys use on your trucks and what has made the biggest difference? Any feedback would be great! Thanks

Well with a budget like yours, headers would not be something to look at. If you have looked at some you will notice that they cost quite a bit and don't give you as much power as you would think you paid for. So with your budget I would stay away from them. As far as the cold air intake, in my personal opinion they all really do they same. You can go to their sites and look at their specs (as far as air flow and things like that.) it really comes down to which you prefer at that point. Now I've been reading on here and looking for a good programmer myself. I stumbled upon hemi fever tuning. They have a programmer called the sct. From looking at the dyno charts they have, it gives you any where from 40 to 45 more horse. Or you can get one for custom programming.

Are you serious? Headers easily give a 15HP gain. While Hemi Fever offers some great stuff, you may have noticed the OP has a 5.9 engine, so I'm guessing that isn't going to work out. I would start with headers and a different cam profile that will add low end power but still retain use of the stock valvetrain.

I was looking at some of the headers summit racing offers and you can find a pair for around 200 300 dollars. I was just wondering what brand name everyone is going with. And I have heard of the sct tuner but could never find it online. Thanks for the feedback by the way!

Hemi fever sct is for the 5.9. That's why I also stated the dyno part. Headers only give like you said 15hp. I'm my book the power to money ratio is way off. I'm mean you pay like four something and only get 15hp. Or you an pay 265 and 40 to 45. They dyno specs to it take a regular 5.9 360 for the stock hp of 245 and brings it to nearly 300. If your willing look up hemifever ad read the sct tuner description you'll see that it is for the 5.9 360.

You can try that. I'm on my phone but it should take straight to the runner I was telling you about. If that doesn't work just simply go to hemifever.com. Then click on the sct dcx tuning. And just go from there.

I checked it out. The one I found was for bolt on modifications and said it was only for 1996 up. Would it still maybe work on my 95?

Which dyno sheet are you looking at? The only ones I see putting up 40 hp + numbers are also modded with a cam and headers.

Contact Hemifever about your 95....he may be able to tune that truck.

You probably won't see a big gain on a 95 with a tuner...but it will probably be as much as a set of headers.

I'd avoid the headers for now and get a set of Harland Sharp 1.7 roller rockers. They give a solid 15 hp gain and are about the cost of headers but far easier to install and won't rust away or leak like a cheap set of headers will. Then I would port and polish my throttle body or add a 50 mm throttle body. Those two items with a tuner will eat up a chunk of your budget but you will feel a good power gain. BTW these mods will add badly needed bottom end torque to move that truck with those 35 inch tires!

As far as CAIs I wouldn't waste my money...and I've had them. Your factory system is a very effective CAI and if you're not going to install a cam, after market intake manifold or hi flo heads you'll save some money by running the factory unit with a drop in K&N or similar filter.
I run a 14x3 chrome air cleaner and can't tell the difference between it and the highly modded FIPK I had...

I have a SCT...best mod for the buck.

My next motor mod will be the rocker arms.
