I have a 1997 Ram 2500 4x4 with the V10 that has sat for nearly 3 years the last 5 months of which was with no oil in the engine. Naturally, my engine is a little tight and doesn't turn over as freely as it should.
The people I bought the truck from kew nothing about mechanics or engines, and let it sit like this without so much as turning it over.
My question is, because there's no distributor, is there any way of pumping oil throughout the engine before I try starting it? I thought about taking the oil pressure sending unit out replacing it with a nipple as you would if installing a mechanical gague, hooking a piece of fuel hose to that and using a pump to pump oil to the crank, rod, and camshaft bearings before I try starting it. Any opinions?
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
I really don't have the facility to pull the engine and tear it down or I would. I'm also on a fixed income and can't afford to pay someone else to do it.
This is my only transportation though so I need it running and to get it running safely I need top pump some oil through the engine before running it.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I thank you in advance for any help you can give.
