Default Transmission Issue

2012 1500, 4.7, 6 Speed Automatic (65RFE?)

I recently took a road trip from Dallas up to Eugene, OR and back. On the way back took the scenic route down through California and as I was getting close to LA on a fairly long incline the transmission started acting funny. It's like it's shifting a little different and sounds different. My best explanation is that it sounds like a fan blowing when it downshifts. Mileage might be a little lower but not much.

If no CEL and no fault codes, I wouldn't be too concerned. Maybe it just unlocked the converter while climbing the grade. Could have also kicked on (or kicked up) the cooling fan, based on trans temp, engine temp, or a couple other factors.

It was acting funny enough I decided to take it to the dealer since I have about 5000 miles left on the warranty.

Turns out the fan clutch is locked up. Explains the blowing sound, and making the engine work harder, changing shift points..

Hopefully this will help someone else and they can avoid the $118 diagnostic charge I'm about to pay..
