Default Superchips Flashpaq?

I'm new here and new to the Ram family as well. I've been doing a little research on the site and getting ideas for ways to tinker with my Truck...cause who can ever leave a vehicle alone? Haha! So far I've ruled out the spacer leveling kit in favor of the Bilstein 5100's. But one thing I haven't found the whole answer to is the big question of programmers/tuners. I love the 4.7 in my truck and wouldn't trade it for a hemi, I love the 15+ mpg I'm seeing around my small town. But, who doesn't want extra power, right?

While I'm sure that the answers are here, I haven't been able to find them, so I will just ask... are the superchips worth the investment? Everyone on here that has one for the 08 and up 4.7L seems to love them, but this is what I am looking to know, does it really give the power gains it's claiming (50hp / 55tq)? Does it improve (or at least not hurt) fuel economy if you can keep your foot out of it? And, does it have any long-term effects on the durability/longevity of the powertrain? My wife and I purchased this truck with the intentions of keeping it at least 10 years, so I don't want to do anything to shorten its lifespan.

Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge!

(On a side note, anyone know the 0-60 of the 08+ 1500 QC 4x4 4.7L trucks? I'm always curious what these big things can do.)

You probably will like it. You WILL NOT get anywhere near those hp improvements, 10 rwhp would be more honest imho. If I had a 4.7, I would absolutely use synthetic oil. I'm a big believer in the Penzoil Platinum, it has excellent detergent properties, has kept both of my hemis spotlessly clean and free of sludge. I think Chrysler has milked the 4.7 for all it's worth as far as power and economy goes. Not crapping on it, I think it gets better economy and has more power than my dad's 4.8 Chevy. If you want to compare to oldschool, 289 cid Shelby GT 350 had 305 hp or so 302 cid Z28 had 290 hp, both were race motors that would barely idle and had more cubic inches.

Thanks for the input. Will definitely go the synthetic route. From my experience, some motors are more finicky about oil than others, so that's good info to know about the 4.7L. I'm not really interested in boosting performance (I.e.- 0-60 times), but I do want to do any little thing I can to get the best and most efficient power from the engine without compromising economy. I saw a dyno chart somewhere that showed the SC 91 octane tune versus stock tuning and the peak gains in hp were around 22hp, so I guess that's still reasonable gains. Would a thermostat swap be wise to go with the superchips to help out with the fan adjustments? And if so, what part number? I've been trying to hunt down the catch can stuff, but that's hard to do on mobile, got a link or can you explain off hand?
