Default 5.9 double tranny cooler question

i have the 2001 5.9 this past weekend the radiator went out at the seams so i went to napa picked up the only radiator in town got home pulled truck apart pulled the radiator out of the box and it had tranny cooler built in it my old one doesnt called napa they said i didnt have to hook it up if i didnt want to.you guys opinion would you hook the other tranny cooler up

The reason why they have the cooler inside the radiator is to warm up the trans when its cold out and keep the trans at a reasonable temp. Doesn't hurt to install an external cooler for towing purposes.

I think you have this backward. The factory setup didn't employ an integral trans cooler in the radiator and the OP is asking if he should use it along with the external one.

Maybe the radiator was replace at one point with one that doesn't have an internal cooler. Doesn't sound like its a factory radiator.

Possibly but one factory setup came with only the external cooler.

I had to replace my radiator on my 01 5.9 and it came with the transmission hook ups. I called the parts store I got it from and they told me if the old one didn't have one leave the new one plugged up and you'll be fine.
I didn't even think to double up the trans cooler. Good thinking. let me know how you run it if you do
