I thought I wanted a diesel, but after running the Hemi now, I'm quite happy with what I have. I don't think I need to spend anymore money for something I don't really need. I think it will be a great option for those looking at a new truck, but I think most of us 4th gen owners will not jump right on it.

It really depends on cost and mileage. I have been waiting the 6'4" bed to be available on the Crew with the Hemi and 8 speed, so time will tell.

I am VERY interested in the new diesel 1500...BUT I just ordered a 4x4 Sport Ram Crew cab with the 8 speed a week ago...so maybe in 2016 this will be something for me...power and mileage look promising. Wonder what costs will be and if it will sit higher like the 2500 or what else will change other than the motor...

DPF, oxi-cat, and SCR w/urea injection are all on the JGC.

Doubt the RAM version will be any different.

I think I'd be game, though I'll have to play with one, and then I'll probably wait for the 2015 model year, just to give 'em time to work out the bugs... (I still stick to the "Don't buy the first model year theme") even though I know the engine isn't new, just the application

Yes, I too believe all these restrictive items will be part of the offering. But then, the good sense is to wait until the aftermarket tunes are ready while first years quirks are corrected and then, it's "Rock on!!!"

Free up HP and ft/lbs on the VM and you could very well see numbers in the vicinity of 275HP/450+ft/lbs...

It may not hit the wall as fast as a Hemi, but it will take as much, if not more of it, with it... Gotta love that torque! I previously owned a Liberty CRD (2.8 VM) and once the tunes were in place, it meant 200hp-375ft/lbs, which was day & night in comparison with the stock setting (160hp-270ft/lbs). A VERY interesting move by Chrysler indeed!

I would be interested in this.
I drove an F350 with 7.3 Powerstroke at work for 8 yrs and now drive a 2012 Silverado 3500 with a Duramax.
My wife has a VW with TDI.
I like the power delivery of the diesel and highway fuel mileage.
I guess it would depend on the cost I guess.
And you would have to factor in the higher maintenance costs.

Higher maintenance costs are a good point! My main reason for the diesel would be mileage, as my Hemi set up is rated at 10,900 lbs for towing and that's plenty for my needs.

I can't wait until my winter tires come off and I start doing more highway driving in the summer. My Hemi's highway mileage is quite decent actually for a crew 4x4 with 3.92's. I get 20 - 21 mpg, about a 1000km a tank on my 32 Gallon (121 Litre) tank.

After reading the 1500 diesel is definite, I am officially done modding my '12 express. I'm not sure if I'll buy right away or wait until 2015. All depends on pricing. Until then, I'm gonna enjoy my current ram.
