Given that I just bought my Ram I wouldnt rush to get this new diesel. I have always loved the thought of a diesel in a small car (I.E. VW golf or w-e) but for my purposes a gas engine in my truck is more appealing.

I would have to see the 0-60 times (I know trucks arent made for racing but those figures are a good benchmark on if take will be take long enough to learn Quantum Physics or teach you the laws of physics by throwing you back in your seats. If the Diesel in Crew Cab 4x4 form can launch the Ram from 0-60 in the early 8 seconds then I'd be happy with those figures.

On another note I would love and buy a 6.4L Hemi Ram 1500 and not in SRT format. It should just be an option as much in the tradesmen trim level up to the Laramie. 470 HP would be a welcome addition under my right foot

I'm watching it. Diesel fuel has been as much as 20% more than regular where I am, so a greater than 20% epa would be needed to be considered. The Hemi 8 speed is what, 21 hwy?. So at least 25-26 rating on the diesel to break even.
If they hit 30 hwy, I may bite depending on the initial cost of entry. Most of my driving is hwy anyway. Would also be great for our road trips.
Also depends if the Sport trim will have the 3.0 option. If they limit it to the chrome crowd- no thanks.

I've been wanting a cummins for a year now and this may be the answer for me. Sport diesel would be awesome. I'm very interested but need to see mpgs, tow rating, and cost before I commit. I personally wouldn't be to worried about the realibility of the engine it's already been used a bunch. It's not a cummins but I'm sure it'll be pretty nice regardless.

this is only based on my opinion but I would hate to see a Sport Ram with a diesel. In its format diesel dont really have sporting credentials (minus a few exceptions) so a Sport truck with a diesel would be like that Girl from the movie Attack from Mars where she has a chihuhua head but keeps her fit body. The Sport should have the 5.7L Hemi as base and the 6.4L Hemi as an option. Diesels should be in all trim levels except the Express, the R\T and the Sport.

As its a V-6,,, most won't be thrilled with the exhaust tone,,,

Doubtful anyone who mods there HEMI exhaust would ever be happy with a modded V-6 exhaust,,,

Kinda have to agree,,, It won't be in an Express. (if for no other reason, Expresses are a 'value-priced' offering.)

R/T? No way!!!

Sport? I'm just not 'feelin it',,,

Tradesman? Absolutely!

SLT and Laramie? Yep!

you are thinking of a v6 gas motor? They get much bigger gains (compared to stock) than gas motors when you start replacing exhaust and intakes. and even more so, once you start bypassing aftertreatment systems. a three litre diesel is on the small side but doesn't matter if you are getting good power, torque, etc. out of it.
the cummins motors are 6 cylinders...... so are the detroit diesels in transit and greyhound buses.
I agree nothing compares the exhaust sound of a hemi, but modded diesels have a cool sound too..... like the sound of the turbo spooling up.
i agree it shouldn't be available in an r/t. but I think it would be a good option in any other model.

I say definitely not in R/T.
Why not a Sport or similar style and call it something else.
I think the more choices the better.

Well if programmers and deletes come out for this I'm pretty sure it will sound fine. Nothing like a modded hemi or inline 6 cummins. But diesels are a lot louder once deleted. However with all the h & s emissions EPA garbage it's doubtful you'll even be able to delete 2013 + in future. I can hope though.

Not sure why you hating on sport diesel combo I love style of those trucks. I regret getting a Laramie in first place but I got good price at the time. Yea it won't sound like a hemi but I don't care I like the look and hopefully mpgs and towing if its as good as I hope. Long as its even close to hemi tow rating with the higher mpg I will buy one as long as its sport trim.

IMHO, gas or diesel, a V-6 sounds like a V-6.

All we need is Bubba to slap some flowmasters on his 3.0 and,,,, (eh,,, doesn't matter, he'll still think it sounds good!)

So, if we must have the 3.0 in a Sport, why not in the R/T then? =)

Ain't hatin',,, just sayin'! =)
