What is interesting is the Jeep Cherokee with the 8 speed and V6 gasser gets 25MPG HWY just like the 2wd Ram does with the same engine and tranny. So we could be looking at 30MPG MWY. If deletes and tuning is possible 33-35MPG could be possible on the HWY. How sweet would that be with a fullsize truck?

I just bought a RCSB Express in September. Depending on how reviews are I may be looking for a trade in.

I have mixed feelings on this. Fuel mileage would need to be far superior for me to jump on a 1500 diesel. Up here diesel is more expensive than gas and maintenance on one is almost double. Will definitely be interesting. If it were a small Cummins it would be nice :-)

i'll be trading in my 2012 nissan frontier whenever this hit the lot. Solely for the MPG and what a few modds can even better the MPG. I drive 60k-70k miles a year. I been saying whoever come out with a small diesel in a 1/2 ton truck will get my money. I am a man of my word.

Default Diesel Premium

If pricing is consistent with the Grand Cherokee diesel the upgrade price will be in the neighborhood of $4500. For that price I can get a lot of gas. The break even price on that is quite a long time when you factor in the maintenance.

As far as maintenance, has anyone put pen to paper to confirm anything?

I'm guessing 10 qts for the new 3.0l diesel which is only 3 more than a hemi. I'm not sure how long oil change intervals will be but, 10K miles is not uncommon nowadays even on gas units.

I'm not sure how many fuel filters or how often they will need to be changed but, you don't have to worry about spark plugs(16 with hemi) or coil packs.

For me, my '99 is getting long in tooth with 295K miles currently. I will be serously looking all year and likely purchasing this new 1500 diesel option when it arrives...

Regards,

I've been waiting for this release for a couple of years now. I drive approx 40k miles a year and its gettin old trading in gas trucks every 2 1/2 years or so. I'm looking for longevity mostly. If this truck proves to be a reliable daily, I'm definitely getting one

When I get one in on the lot it'll probably be my DEMO for 6k miles. So I will do a full writeup and honest review once they come in.

Plus i'll be able to compare them to my 2012

I'd love to have the new Grand Cherokee diesel myself.

Heres an alternative looking seriously myself at fitting an Icom liguid propane injection system on my 2012 Hemi. I am currently in Saudi Arabia where fuel is only 60c for a US gallon so no worries about running costs here but in a few years are going to ship the Ram to my home country New Zealand where they have had cars running propane for a few decades now and have a good distribution network. Icom North America claim that the new JTG Liguid Injection Systems produce 10 to 15% more power than gas with only a slight increase in fuel used. Propane in New Zealand just over half the price of gas so fuel cost in propane vehicle is about 60% so its like getting 25 urban mpg and 35 highway mpg. Icom quoted me a kit for the Ram $5300 so it will still take a few years to recover the costs

Natural gas is plentiful here in Houston. Install a tank w/the kit, and one can also ~rent~ a home filling station to refuel overnight. My house uses CNG so this would be ~easy~ to set up.
Some school districts are converting to the same system. Would have to 'do the math' but CNG may be easier to recoup initial cost than diesel.
