You don't have to change the fuel filter that often, but you'll pay for it in the long run. The newer common rail CTD motors have major fuel system issues in the 250k mile range if you aren't on the ball with the filter upkeep.

I pay more for the oil changes in my 5.7 than my CTD. Three gallons of Rotella will run around $60. I put Amisoil in my 1500 Sport and change the oil every 25kish miles (Around 90-100$ with a filter). My CAI's filter calls for a replacement at 100k miles in the 5.7. The CTD wants it to be replaced around every 15k (Turbo sucks in a LOT of crap).

Long runs with oil changes aren't that big of a deal, but when you start messing whith the fuel system in diesels, you have some major problems down the road. Look up Ford's latest class action lawsuit over the 6.7 due to fuel system failers "Not covered under warrenty".

With that said, we plan to replace our Sport with a 2015-16 3.0. The Jeep 3.0 is really nice, it gets into the powerband way quicker than the 5.7 and stays in it throughout the gear. We recently sold our 2012 Overland and bought a 2500 CTD.

Also I wonder how supportive the aftermarket will be with this engine. It has been used in europe for awhile if I am not mistaken, anyone know if there are tuners and what kind of power people are getting out of this platform. I don't really care about the stock numbers but would love to see with aftermarket tuning getting numbers in the 300/500 range.
You must miss the link with banks version of the same engine

Last I read is summer time when they have the numbers for us... I think they are waiting for chevy's 2014 silverado number

Saw the Banks link and the info, but no real details given. The Banks engine uses the block but everything else seems to be Banks "custom" My question is more of what will a good exhaust, intake, and tune do for this little puppy.

Sucks that I bought my current truck back in December, but if a 4x4 3.0L crewcab gets 28 mpg hwy, then yes I will be buying the new diesel provided it's not more than a $2000 upcharge.

I think the upcharge is going to be the real factor in if these sell well or not. There is truly no reason to have a huge upcharge aside from "they can" I would think from a marketing position they could go around $1500 for the upgrade over the Hemi as that would follow in relation to the main competition, the Ford Ecoboost. If they get crazy with it and want 3-4K for the upgrade then the 28mpg no longer makes it viable compared to a gasser unless you plan to keep the truck for multi-100K miles. I really want one, but logic will trump desire for me.

Since it's only available on the Limited and above models, it's a $7500 upcharge once the right package is selected.

I will buy a 3.0 l diesel ram

I don't see any reason not to. I want better milage than my current truck.
Buying 3.0l ram would give me about 25% better mileage over a ford ecoboost (assuming 26MPG hiway)

Assuming $4500 upcharge, the cost is about the same for either vehicle
