I don't think superchips has an 89 tune, but even the 87 tune will give you probably 10-15 hp increase.

I got my flashpaq in the mail today. I was wondering what tune I should install in my truck. I will have the CAI in with high flow filter and full exhaust installed by Saturday. Looks like my options are: Track Performance, Tow Power (Heavy and Light Load), Economy (Mileage XS Save and 87 Octane) or I have Stock w/options. My first thought would be to use the Track Performance option but it says you can't tow with that option. I do have to pull a fairly heavy job trailer from time to time. If I use the Track Performance option would I need to reprogram each time I was going to pull my trailer? If I use the track performance option is that were I can select the octane I wish to use? I have not plugged it in to the truck yet, I have only read through the instruction booklet. TIA.

First thing's first, you need to connect the tuner to your laptop or desktop computer and download the update software from superchips.com. Install the software and connect the tuner then it will automatically update the tuner with the latest files.

Then hook it up to your truck and select your tune. I know the instructions show various tune options, but I think for your model you will have the following:

93 performance
91 performance
87 performance
Tow (must use 91 or higher octane)
Mileage XS (87 octane)
Stock

You can't tow haul a lot(say more than ~1000lb with the performance tunes because of the ignition advance. If you do, you will get knocking/detonation/pinging and although the engine has knock sensors for protection from damage, you should avoid this.

Here's what I often do though, to avoid retuning all the time... Use the 87 performance tune with 87 octane. This gives good performance/power and mpg. Then when you need to tow/haul leave the 87 performance tune installed but fill the gas tank with 89, 91, or 93 octane. The higher octane gives more resistance to detonation, so you can put more load on the engine without damage. Many people do this very same thing on the superchips forums with great results. I actually prefer this over the tow tune as the tow tune doesn't get very good mpg.

I hope this helps.

Fair warning: The superchips update software SUCKS, so be patient.

What Sean said. It doesnt take long to reprogram the truck to a different tune. Its not a hassle at all.. just takes some patience. Remember superchips website advertises motor HP not rwhp i believe.

SC posts rear wheel numbers from a dyno.

Since it's a net change it's the same. If you add 10hp at the crank you are adding 10hp at the wheels. This is why it's not wise to use a percentage figure such as "20%" drive train loss to the wheels. If your engine makes 350hp at the crank and it loses 75hp to the wheels, then you supercharge it and it makes 500hp at the crank it still only loses 75hp to the wheels(assuming no other changes such as beefing up the transmission, etc.....this is theoretical).

@Sean thanks a lot for the help. I got the programmer updated without any issues. I like your idea of programming the 87 tune and then running higher octane to tow with but I really don't tow a lot. I may pull the trailer 3-5 times a year. Do you think it would be better if I ran the 91 or 93 octane program and just reprogrammed when I did need to tow?

^you'd get a little more performance that way, yes. MAYBE a little better mpg that way too. But honestly I get a boost in mpg with the tuner, but can't tell a mpg difference between any of the performance tunes, so the best $/mile is probably the 87 performance tune. And like I said I actually prefer the 87 tune on higher octane when towing vs the tow tune. Seems to pull just as good but with better mpg. I will say though I've never towed a really really heavy load.
