I read somewhere that the 87 tune is considered performance because you can't tow with it.

Yeah the 87 tune is considered a performance tune by SC. I just retuned mine yesterday since I had the dealer program the pcm for my fog lights, and for whatever reason they list:

performance 93
performance 91
87

So for whatever reason they didn't put the word "performance" in front of the 87 tune, but it's the same thing just less ignition timing for lower octane. I usually use the 93 tune but with gas getting so crazy I put it to the 87 tune.

I did put the 87 tune in today. I'm pretty pleased with the results. The gas mileage did improve and the trucks ability to pull hills without down shifting is better. I would like to try the advanced trans tuning in the future. I really feel like I need another 25-30 hp or maybe a set of 3.92's to get the truck where I want it.

Glad you like it. A tuner is by far the best bang/buck, and the easiest.

Where do I go next for hp? Should I look at cams or an 08+ intake? I have 3.55 gears now would 3.92's be worth the price to swap?

Even though the intake swap is a power increase, I'd bet it's likely not worth the $$$. Gears would be money better spent. Cams would be great, but good luck finding a set...(they are discontinued). You could always have a company do a regrind for you...

I think I will look into gears next and start looking around local salvage yards and see if I can put my hands on a intake for cheap.

Just keep in mind with the intake you need the TB adapter from airram and it's $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, but airram is a great company and I'm sure it's a quality part.

If you pay to go to 3.92's, you may as well go to 4.10's. Hwy mpg will go down 1-2mpg though if you cruise above 70mph.

That's my problem with gears, I drive 40k+ a year. It's mostly interstate but then again the company foots the gas bill so.......
