Default Switching gear issue

My 2005 will move from 1st to 4th as normal, but once in 4th it's like the engine and everything just relaxes. I have to lay on the gas to get it to move on to 5th. It's like something is not communicating to the transmission until I give it a bunch of gas. Not sure if this would be caused by a faulty TPS? Any thoughts?

So are you saying it shifts 1-2-3-4 normally, but then you have to get up to a significantly higher speed before it will shift into 5th? Does this happen both when cold and after it's warmed up?

Correct....happens all the time, no matter if it's cold or warmed up. When I get on the highway, it's smooth all the way to 4th gear and then I have to give it more gas (push down on the pedal) to get it to move to 5th. It also will throttle at idling. I turn on the truck, normally it's at the 600 RPM but it races up to 1100, then down to 500, then back up to 900 and so on. Thought it might be the tps and was thinking maybe these issues are all related to one item. Thanks for assisting me.

Yes, could definitely be related to a TPS problem. Normally, the trans is more likely to upshift at LIGHTER throttle, and will delay shifting (or even downshift) at heavier throttles. So in light of your idling concern, I'd have a dealer or shop throw a scan tool on it and check the TPS response.
