Default Picking up tires in the US from Canada, is it worth it?

I found a great deal on tires online in the states, they charge ~400 for shipping to canada. Will i get charged brokerage fees at the border on this shipment? Or is it easier to pick up the tires at a US address?

I in Winnipeg so the border is only 45 min away and I pick up all my tires and parts for my truck and wife's car from the US, I just get it shipped there and pick them up. I have saved so much money doing things that way. If you pick it up yourself you won't have to pay brokerage fees and a lot if the time if you can ship it to an address in the US it will be free shipping. So you will save money on product and shipping. If you are going to go down and pick them up just make sure to bring your receipt and then you will have to pay the taxes and duty if its not made in the states. I like to support local shops but if I'm saving 200 a tire then I'm going support my wallet instead. Good luck and hope this helps.

You will get hit with brokerage charges and Gst, I would call to find out what they will be, in most cases it's based on the value of the goods, I just got nailed $100.00 bucks on a $250.00 package, brokerage and gst, so if your paying a $1000.00 for your wheels you are looking at potentially $400.00 shipping, and $400.00 in fees and Gst. $800.00 bucks buys a lot of fuel

you will only pay the GST on the purchase price. Make sure you have all the receipts and its very easy.

Nice! Thats totally worth it on a $3k package lol
I ran across this Kinekpoint.com shipping service and there is a location in Babb, Montana which you can ship your packages to for a small fee and they hold them for you for up to 30 days.
Tires and rims will come on a pallet which would cost 27.50 to receive them there.. plus for taxes on 3k at only 5% = alot of savings in brokerage fees i imagine!

There is the same kind of place in Pembina, ND. They will hold the pkg for $5 up to 70lbs or $20 for a pallet. When I come back across the border I just tell them what I bought and go inside with my receipts and pay the axes and sometimes the duty depending on where its made. Really easy and you will save a ton of money. You only pay the brokerage fee if a broker does the paper work and processes your order, I had to pay $40 for a $25 pkg and that's what made me ind a new way to get things from the states.

I'm also in winnipeg and bought a set of 33" BFG KM2's and a set of Wild Peak AT's, both sets were free shipping in the USA so I had them shipped to a parcel service at the border. The savings for me were for sure worth it, I saved over $250+ on each order even after factoring in fuel and taxes at the border.

I did not have to pay any duty as the tires were North American, only taxes as I would have to pay if I bought them locally.

I got my Duratracs from Discount Tire. Brought up to bc from Washington. Saved huge You only pay applicable hst/gst for personal use goods. Just have your documentation and be honest!!! This is assuming you are bringing over yourself and not shipping.

I have all my stuff shipped to a place called CBI, its in Niagara Falls NY, and I live right across the border. They charge $6 a package and all I have ever paid is the HST. I am over and back in under an hour.
