Default Left Oil Cap Off

So I never claimed to be the brightest one in the bunch…

Last time I changed my oil at 3000 miles I left the cap off. I noticed it off yesterday and changed the oil/filter (mobile 1) right then. I’ve been driving around for three months (4,500 miles) with this thing off. Do you guys recommend another oil change in a few weeks / miles? Anything else I should do?

You wouldn't need another oil change after just doing it again. Did it spray any in the engine compartment? Maybe clean the engine compartment.

You are not the first guy, and will not be the last guy to do this, don't feel too bad about it!

I don't think you have anything to worry about, it's in a fairly protected spot and you live in a warm climate.

I would be worried about the dirt contamination - for $25 it is probably worth the piece of mind to change it again.

No need to change the oil again. Any contaminants that may have entered the engine will be carried to the pan via the returning oil and will be picked up and filtered again before reaching any bearings or other components where tiny particles do the most damage.
