Default Yet Another "Good Deal?" Thread

I just got home from the dealer. I was all set to place an order but could not pull the trigger. The salesman would not budge from the deal he was offering, which was 1% below invoice.

This is for an outdoorsman QC 4x4, Ramboxes, 84an radio, wheel to wheel sidestep, 9 speaker system, cd player, trailer brake system.

Here are the numbers:
42720 msrp
38972 one percent below invoice
4000 tradein on my 01 Ram
1250 rebate
1000 truck month
______
32722

35350.29 otd

That is about 3k more than I was hoping, partly because the trade amount is 2k lower than I wanted. Am I expecting too much?

Wish you could sell your current and take the trade out of the equation. Then go for invoice minus holdback.

yeah hold back is 3% of msrp minus destination.....so if they want to sell a truck here at the end of the month (and they should) , stick to your guns and they will call, if not find another dealer.

After holdback, how much would you say is a "fair" amt in gross profit per car for a dealer? $500?

rex.........who knows the dealers try to say the holdback under invoice is their profit, the problem is there is so many factory to dealer incentives, factory bonuses and $$$check per new new vechicle sold nobody really knows what the dealer is making "per vechicle" until all the money is counted at the the end of the month.

My father had a dealer tell him "It don't matter what I sell this truck to you for, Dodge will send the dealership a $2500 check just selling a new truck."........who knows.

point is, the dealers aint hurting at any price, so beat them up on price the best you can.

I just ordered a '13 longhorn for $2750 under invoice BEFORE any rebates........they aint hurtin'

The rebates where you live are low. My lone star (big horn) was almost $43 sticker and with just the rebates it was down to confirn$35, 200 before even working them down.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is take your price, call a few local dealers and show them and even far distant, out of town dealers and show them.

Odds are they'll all match at a minimum of course or beat your offer.

Bring the new counter offer with proof to your dealer and tell them to drop their pants from their knees to their ankles. Make sure they take all the fees out. I've so far brought down the Sport fully loaded as the Laramie has it plus some and I'm retailing at $44,000 from an MSRP of $59,075.

Holdback is paid by the manufacturer to the dealer to compensate the dealer for the time the vehicle sits on the lot - financing charges primarily but also advertising and misc. other costs. If a vehicle has been on the dealer's lot for some time then it's likely that a good proportion of the holdback has already been "spent" and hence the dealer may not be willing to negotiate it. On the other hand, the holdback attached a pre-sold factory order may be all profit to the dealer.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am going to talk to a few dealers today and see if anyone will beat this price. It bothers me that the salesman made it sound as though there was simply no way to go lower, even gave me the line about the invoice price being his price. They need to make a profit and I respect that, but at the same time I need a good deal.

demo.........don't be scared, dealers are not hurting......no matter how great the deal, if the truck leaves the lot they made money on it.....don't be shy about asking for what you want.

you really have to play these dealers against one another, and this is a perfect time to do it because the month ends in the middle of the week. Dealers depend on weekends for traffic....find a hungry dealer and you will get a better deal.

they all want to make their quotas for the month because the bonuses that come when they do........ dealers can "wheel and deal" more than they let on, they are used to people buying just below sticker, or at invoice...... deal on how much under invoice they will sell it BEFORE rebates. control the conversation and don't be afraid to walk out.....they'll call you back.
