Many dealers get bimonthly or at least monthy bonuses IF they meet their numbers. The top dealers generally do meet their numbers and therefore have more room to discount. The number one dealer in TN sells their trucks for invoice, minus holdback, minus ANOTHER $400 off of every new truck because they get additional bonus money for each truck sold if they meet their quoto. They told me this up front and they do not haggle. THEN you as the customer get Chrysler's rebates added to that. When I took that pricing to two other dealers here locally, one would match but the other smaller dealer could not go more than holdback because he doesn't always reach their numbers like the larger dealerships. He did offer me an added year of oil changes, nitrogen in tires, scotchguard to offset. My point is find your best price (which should be invoice minus holback/NOT including rebates) and get it in writing and either buy it there or take it to a dealership you have a relationship with.

So far I have talked to 3 dealers in the Indianapolis area. Every single one said the same thing: "There's no way to go below the Friends & Family discount". They refuse to budge. I'm starting to wonder if they have some sort of agreement amongst them.

They need to make a profit and I respect that, but at the same time I need a good deal.
please let us know how you come out

that's when I call them on their BS right to their face and say "you are lying and here is how you are lying"

you have to understand and let that dealer know they need to sell a truck worse than you need to buy one....... not to mention the fact Feb is the lowest historical sales month for trucks.......dont let them BS you, if they continue to BS you just tell them to call you when the are ready to sell a truck and walk out.

Just got a quote from Rockie William in Lebanon, TN (thanks Bhbdvm for the tip!). They are willing to do the holdback + $400, which means that the price before rebates would be 37638.

The price from the local dealer would be 38972, so that's $1334 better. Now time to take that back to the local guys and see what they'll do.

Default Wow. Just Wow.

Here is the response I got from my local dealer when I sent them the offer I received from the folks in Tennessee:

Quote:
My name is <name removed> and Im the sales manager you spoke to the other night when you came in to speak with <name removed> about ordering your new truck, I appreciate the opportunity to earn your business, I think that as a dealer we have the right to make some money on selling you a vehicle which I think you would agree on, you already get the friends and family price which is 1 percent under invoice, albeit that Chrysler pays us back that money, that is what we make on the vehicle, so with that said, the other dealer has not seen your truck that you are trading and I urge you to rethink your decision on buying a truck out of state, thank you again for your time.

I'm not sure why the Used Car Manager is emailing me about this....but even more amazed at the attitude.

The dealer I am working with does invoice - holdback (except maybe $500) - incentives. Very straight forward. I get the "preferred pricing" (friends and family discount) so that is about $500 below invoice, and since I bought a New Dodge Grand Caravan R/T from them a couple months ago they are doing the FF price - all of the holdback - incentives. I was pretty happy. Just have to decide to order for the 8 spd or take a 6 spd off the lot. Leaning towards the 8 spd

Anyone know - for sure - what the holdback is on Ram trucks for CANADIAN dealerships? I am aware it is 3% in the U.S. but there is some dispute that Canadian dealerships receive this much in holdback.

just tell straight up tell him you know about holdback.......did he say he gets paid back for the Friends and family discount, then go on to gripe he deserves to make $$$ on the truck???

THAT in a nutshell is why I hate dealing with dealers that act like they are poor... we live in a free market and PRICE is KING, so that sales manager is just going to have to deal with it.
