Default 6 speed or 8 speed

Just bought a 2013 6 speed big horn now dealer is getting in 8 speed for 500 dollars more,is it going to be that much better of a transmission. Did I make a mistake for buying this one, should I have waited. Or am I better off because this is first year for 8 speed so it may have some issues until they work out the bugs.

i hope to give advice within 2weeks when my hemi 8speed gets delivered. it is built and in the shipment stage. i waited for the 8speed. i have been told mine came from over seas. Ram is opening a US plant this week to build the 8spd tranny's. my work has rules for highway mpg to be 20 or more and the 8 speed hemi shows 21, and thats the only way for me to switch from my 2008 GMC to a Ram.

Both are great. Enjoy the truck you purchased and don't look back.

Some will say 6spd and others will say 8spd. Just sit back and admire the beauty in your driveway.

I just traded off my 11 on a 13 with the six speed, I upgraded way early and for one reason only. I was scared they weren't going to offer a choice of transmission and there is no way in hell I'm going with a truck with a turn dial for a shifter!
I was kind of looking at the 8 speed as the 5 and 6 speeds aren't the greatest coming off the line when the holiday trailer is in tow but I figured for the 6 to 8 times a year I actually have the trailer behind me I can live with the 6 speed. The final drive ratio's with the 6 and 8 speed are identical so there will be no clear advantage there. The only advantage I can see the 8 having will be a smoother shift and maybe a more even power distribution through the lower gears.

You're dead on, the final ratio is the same, so are they are pretty much saying the grill shutters on the 8spd are increasing the hwy mpg by 2. Like i said before, work only cares whats on paper. This has been a tough 6 weeks waiting, if i didnt have guidelines to follow, i wouldve left with a truck from the lot!

The answer is YES, you have a fine truck. I opted to wait for the 8 speed....and I'm still waiting....and waiting. I was a Ford guy and needed the 8 speed and the Laramie package to push me over - for me, an 8 spd was the ticket and I was ready to buy a 6 without hesitation.

Post your pics....I can only live vicariously until mine is built.

It depends who you ask. I was going to order the 8 but changed my mind after a lot of thinking and checking with a Chrysler transmission expert. I decided to go with the 6 for my 2013 Express factory order. I could see getting the 8 if I was going to be using mine for towing, but I'm not... I didn't even order a hitch hahaha!

Everyone needs to give GTyankee credit, he called this one 3 weeks ago. Cuz i even doubted him when my inital delivery date was 2/26. my dealer did show me some sort of Google Earth street view on Monday. i cant confirm what Rams were built, but it blew my mind how many were built at the plant. not sure how often those are updated, but either way, a lot of Rams were built.
