Default Muffler Question that local AAarea dealers can't answer

Well I want to change out the muffler only, on my 2013 ram and I called 5 area dodge dealers starting with the one that I bought the truck at and none of them can tell what the inlet and outlet size is. My dealer pulled a sketch of it up on the computer and it has no information on it other than part numbers. They said that they could bring it in and try and measure it. This just is mind baffling to me. I called dodge customer service cause I couldn't find a number for tech support and they didn't know and said they would have tech support email with the measurements. Some of the guys on here from what i have been reading say there 3'' in 2.5'' out. I was going to order from advance auto for $96.00 free shipping until I found out I couldn't find a shop that use stainless for the spacing pieces to make it fit. I then called mufflex and they told me that my truck has 3'' in 2.25 out. Why is this so hard? If I go with mufflex it will cost about $150 more. But you know what, it would be more than worth it cause I believe they know what there talking about.

The only real issue with mufflex mufflers is their clamp on style vs a shops weld in, however you can purchase the stainless steal and request that they use it instead of theirs and the muffler, may come out to be a little bit more however everything would be welded together and not clamped together which to me and many others is always a plus, if you would like I could put you a quote together for the muffler and extra stainless steal tubing by magnaflow

Thanks
Jeremiah

No. it's welded in. You can use a 2.5 outlet or a 2.25 outlet. any decent welder can make either work. Lot's of us, including myself have 2.5' outlets with no issues. The 3' inlet is the main thing to worry about. One guy had a shop cut out some of the 3" pipe and replaced it with 2.5" pipe and weld in a 2.5" inlet muffler!! It choked his poor hemi. I would have taken that 2.5" pipe to that guy's arse.

I just got back from a local muffler shop and they put my truck on the lift, it has a 3'' inlet and 2.25'' outlet's and yes the muffler is clamped on. Just ordered the magnaflow 18'' #12288 with the 2.5 outlets as suggested by the shop. I ordered it through advance auto $102.00 shipped to my house. The shop is going to weld it on for $45.00 plus whatever stainless pipe is needed.

Does that muffler shop have a Mandrel Pipe Bender ?
it is considered the better of the 2 benders, although being as it is the exit end of the muffler, i don't think it really matters

When my local muffler shop installed mine, he just cut the stock pipes as close to the muffler as possible. The 18" MaxFlow was almost identical in length to the stock muffler. He just added 2 small sections of pipe maybe 3 inches long on the tailpipe side of the muffler tacked them to the muffler and tail pipes, did a quick alignment check and welded it up.

Not a bad price at all, next time you are in the market for a mod let me know I could've got you a little better pricing

Thanks
Jeremiah
