Default Opinions. 22 or 24" rims?

I have a 13 ram laramie crew cab. Has the air ride and is true blue in color. I'm going to order the helo 866 rims in black with chrome inserts. I'm not sure if i should go 22 or 24".The truck is my dd and has the air ride so it will remain stock height. The guy at the tire shop was advising I go 22" because of the rough ride, possible damage from potholes, etc with the 24". If I went 24s what size and brand tires should I run? What kind of changes in driving should I expect? Rough ride? Not sure if these wheels would be a lot heavier then stock and effect my mileage quite a bit. Any input will be appreciated.

22's and 24's are heavier than stock for sure and unless you put a good amount of rubber between the rim and the road your ride will definitely get rougher even with the air ride, and electronic steering (up till 2012 it was hydraulic) you'll feel the heaviness of the bigger rims and lower profile tires on the road. I'd go with 22's, I have them on my truck and love them. Some guys on here have 24's and even 26's with no issues other than they can feel the difference driving, but you'll definitely want to avoid a pot hole.

If your going for the big look, 24s for sure. 22s with a lip look close to 20s. I ALMOST went with the 24 866 untill i found out the were 400 a rim... But if you feel fine dropping that. Go for it. I love those 866. But yes, Youll have to watch for potholes and since they are a low offset (+10IIRC) rim you should be able to fit 285 40 on there for a little more sidewall to help with the ride and protect the rim better. Theres a member on here that runs them with a 2/4 drop. Maybe he can chime in!

Ya the rims are 45lbs. For the 24". I was thinking 305/45r24 tires. About the same height as stock I think. Anybody got pics of 24s with stock height.

I priced out 22 and 24s today. This is what the tire shop came up with.

22" with nitto 420 -$2500 or durun f1-$2000 installed
24" with nitto 420 -$3800 or durun f1-$2900 installed

That's a big price difference between tires. Anyone know if the durun f1 are any good?

Also the 24's would be with 295/40 tires or 305/35.

Just make sure you get the correct offset for the wheels or they will stick out past the fender. I had 305/35/24 on my truck but had the wrong offset wheels, resulting in rubbing when I hit bumps. Plus, I hit a pothole that was unavoidable causing bent rim. Needless to say, I no longer have this set. Also, my truck was lowered 2/4 at the time and still is.

I got my 22" boss with nexen roadian hp for 1748 inc lugs mount and balance. Me and one of my buddies have had a couple sets of nexen RHP and have no complaints. Good cheap tires IMO. And 45 lbs is pretty light for a 24" wheel also. What brand are they?

Well i feel stupid... I already said how much i liked them earlier. Lol.

And that would explain the prices.

Either size would look great. Hope to see some pics soon!!!!

I don't know where you're getting your rubber from but that's a hell of a lot more than I paid when I picked my 420S's up. Have you looked at kxwheels.ca? I would also highly recommend looking at american sites and shipping to the montana border, you will save a ton doing it that way, you just need a day to drive down and get them, which isn't too bad from RMH.
