Default Grille Guard

Thinking of getting a grille guard, any make better than other? Any experiences in hitting a deer, as that's what I want additional protection from a worst case scenario?

That's exactly what I am looking for also! That's a clean look. Coming from LE experience and all our cars having push bars similar to yours, I found is all I need. Info/Website/Cost would be much appreciated!!!

Yup, too bad it will cause more damage than nothing at all! About the only thing that will save the frontend is a full bumper replacement, like a Buckstop. and even with that, in some cases there is nothing that is going to save the truck

Thanks gents for the compliments. This one is by GoRhino #3217B and it is pretty solid for my light duty use. The Ranch Hand grilles aren't mounted any different and I didnt want too much added weight to the smooth riding front suspension. It mounts to the front bumper/tow hook mounts as well as the upper crossmember behind the grill. It cost me $265 out the door from CarID. And for Scrappy, I understand everyones obsession with spending over 1200 bucks on a HD front bumper, but I would rather spend that kind of money on wheels and tires. If somebody can fabricate an HD bumper that is close to the smooth contours of our OE, then yeah, I'd save for that. Remember, it is a light duty pickup and I bought a light duty grille guard/brush guard. Don't hate on me Scrappy. Come on man........

As he stated, most of the 1500 grill guards mount the same, most are more for looks, but do what they need. They won't compleatly stop a deer, they will fold and ruin your fenders. But while Scrappy is sitting in the middle of the country waiting for a tow truck, your truck will still be driveable.

I personally really like the Go-Rhino posted above, I plan to put one on my sport in the near future. I think they look better than a bull bar and add more function. Anyone that thinks a bumper replacement on a 1500 will stand up any better is just delusional, it won't be made of anything strong enough to stop much of anything. If it was heavy enough the truck would be unwieldy and ruined before long.

2500's are a different beast all togather. The grill guard on my truck weighs right around 150-160lbs, compaired to the 1500's 78. I wanted protection for the five plus coolers hiding behind the platic grill, if I lose a fender over it? So be it. I'm betting at most I lose a headlight or two, which is much cooler than a costly intercooler. I didn't want a full replacement due to weight. You have to factor in the weight of everything you put on that truck when you start doing the math for towing.

If you want the look of a full grill guard, I like the looks of the Westin HDX, you can even get them with a winch mount. I have a Ranch Hand on my 2500, paid $459 for it before tax (Local pickup).

After second look, the HDX won't work for you. Express/Sport not included.

Thanks for the backup Deathrend and nice truck bud! I've got a 4 rod holder I made just for fishing the gulf beaches that I will mount and take pics of this summer to show the utility side of it. Hell, maybe I'll even mount my barbecue grill on it as well just for shizz and giffles. Hahaha!
