It is pretty bad that I wish my crew cab was being built in Mexico and not Michigan. And people wonder why manufacturing jobs are fleeing the U.S.

I have no sympathy for the workers complaining about working 4x 10hr days. Let them come and work 10x 12hr shifts in the middle of nowhere and get 4 days off of which 2 are spent driving to and from the work location 500miles away.

I know the issues with the trucks aren't labor related, but it really gets me steamed when union workers complain about things like work hours when there are many other professions out there that work longer hours for less pay and no benefits.

Now, talking about the trucks, I like how it says the first day it only passed 16 trucks... on day one, of course there will be issues, that's why there's a QA/QC system, to catch these and make changes to correct them, whether its parts or process.

I think the fact that they failed that many trucks is fine. At least they catch the issues and repair them and not just ship em down to us! Reading about the shift changes and the new workers makes me a bit nervous about having a new truck on order... But I'm sure the quality control inspections are pretty tight if that many failed! That's a little comforting. As is the warranty.

I agree, I'm an engineer at a weapon's plant and if there aren't defects being caught in inspection with that many hands in the pot then there is a reason for concern.

I only have 4+K on my '12 truck so far and all is well.

No you don't. when Avaya more Merlin to Mexico the defect rate went from .01% to 14%. Installation techs started to order two of everything to get install jobs done on time.

Yes I do. What does your example have to do with my truck? Ram has been building trucks in Mexico for awhile and the Mexican ones are reported to have better paint jobs than the Michigan ones.

BTW, did Avaya move back after their disastrous move to Mexico that you described? If not, how come?

Kind hard to move back when you sell a multi-million dollar factory so they just killed the product line. I thought most painting is done by robots now-days. so that would be a programming issue.

Could be where the paint is coming from and/or the paint inspector. The inspectors in Mexico might be tougher on their inspections than in MI.

Haha, you don't have to look south of the border to find those kind of defects. I've bought lots of American made trash over the years. Here's some interesting numbers actually related to the auto industry, showing Mexico with a far lower glitch rate than the USA:

California research group, J.D. Power & Associates, in their annual report on such developments rated Ramos Arizpe Numero Uno among G.M. plants, which averages 86 glitches per 100 cars. The current industry average in the entire U.S. auto industry is 140 glitches, down dramatically from a few years ago. http://www.drtomorrow.com/lessons/lessons3/31.html

In general, I see Mexicans as harder workers with better work ethic. I wouldn't want my truck to be built in Michigan even if I had the choice.
