Exclamation Any luck with these brands?

Looking at replacing what I'm assuming to be wore out stock bulbs. They still work but they're DIM.
I run my brights all the time and don't upset anyone.

I've been looking at Sylvania XV XtraVision Halogen Headlight Bulb ($16 for two), Sylvania SU SilverStar Ultra Halogen Headlight Bulb ($30 for two) and Philips VisionPlus Headlight Bulb ($18-19 for two).

Anyone use them? Any luck? or would I be better off with new stockers?

I'd like brighter/whiter light, but I don't want to break the bank or continue replacing them all the time.

I apologize, I've already posted a similar thread in third Gen Electrical, but I wanted more opinion than just the general third Gen crew.

Thanks for any help guys!

I can sorta help. I haven't used any of the exact bulbs you listed, but in my previous truck ('08 Sierra), I swapped out to Sylvania zXe low beams. I really liked them. Pretty decent increase in light output over stockers and had a good white color to them. Now, they won't compare with HIDs or LEDs, but I would definitely spend the extra over stockers.

I've personally used the Silverstars in bikes and cars and think they are worth the money. Shop around for the best price and make sure to check eBay.

Thanks for the info! Seems like the zXe's have a pretty decent following, but also a pretty decent price tag. (I'm seeing prices around $47.) How long did they last for you?

Thanks! I've definitely been looking around. Bargain shopper and penny pincher over here.

I had them for about 3 years when I traded in the truck. Still going strong.

Wow! Thanks for the response. Wasn't expecting them to last that long as the general consensus is the higher the brightness the lower the life.
Oh well. Thanks Pharmboy2010!

That is the general consensus, though a lot depends on how often the lights are on as well. I work at night so I am usually always driving after dark. Rarely had any aftermarket bulb last longer than a year.

I had the Silverstars, expensive PIAAs, and others. I always turn back to HID. Although if you can find a set of HIR bulbs that seems to be an awesome option. I also see LED retrofits hitting the market, but they are a little pricey!

I really don't think I can afford an HID kit, though it would be nice...
