Default Y-Pipe swap worth the money?

Has anyone seen dyno results from the y-pipe swap? I'm just wondering if it's worth the time and money.

Also, would there be a nice gain deleting the cats?

Making your exhaust more free flowing is always a good thing and will increase fuel mileage, the Y pipe would be a good investment. Removing the cats will not improve any performance or fuel mileage. There are sensors before and after the Cats that look at many points of data, and they tell the computer to run leaner or richer. If you delete the cats the sensors (the ones after the cats) will be reading the same as the ones pre-cats and will throw a Check engine light and will make your truck run either richer or leaner giving worse performance and worse fuel mileage. Changing out the CATS to a high performance, high flow from an aftermarket source would be the way to get a bit better performance and a bit better mileage. Best of luck!!!

To me unless your putting on headers, hi-flo cats are a waste of money.
Y-pipe should help where head pipes comes together for less restriction. Re-tuned PCM would then help out more.
How is your dealer on mods for warrenty work?

I'm on the same fence as you. I've got the y, but can't find anywhere cheaper than $200-$250 for the install. Ridiculous.

If a shop is $100 per hour. And it takes 1 to 1.5 hours to install. Plus a shop material charge plus taxes.... Add that up and suddenly $200 isn't so ridiculous.

Dig deep and find a back alley shop or a buddy who can do it for less.

it's a Y pipe..to a muffer shop it should be a piece of cake..an hour? really? You got to find that right muffler shop (small single owner type...) ..the one I go to I've learned to not even get a quote before any work because if i did, he goes by the book...if I don't, he'll do the work and charge a really low price afterwards and most people give him more money because he does great work (even though he doesn't mandrel bend)... most all the forum people go there, especially the local dodge/viper truck guys... we once had a gtg there on a saturday (he's not open on saturdays) because we had a bunch of guys dump there flow's for magnaflows...

I highly doubt anyone's taken the [extreme] measure of dynoing their truck after [only] a Y-pipe swap.

Just to get numbers, most places will charge you app. $120 for three pulls. That's about the same price for the Y-pipe AND installation, give or take.

Doesn't seem good spending sense to me....

Just a thought, do ya really need to remove the cat for a couple of ponies? Haven't' we screwed the environment enough yet? Build smarter... Are all the mechanical things done? Alignment, bearings tire rotation break return springs to stop drag...tweak these first only so much you can do to push a brick down the road lol.:-)
