Default cranks but wont run *PLEASE HELP*

So, winter is here in Michigan again and sure enough, causing problems with my truck. This started out a week, almost 2 weeks ago. Id go out to start the truck after getting off work and it would crank over like usual, but the moment it "fires" it would die, Id turn the key off, back on, start, it would do the same, as soon as it fired, it would stop and not do anything else until I cycled the key back to off and back on, then it would start, run rough. die. Id cycle the key again, restart it and it would run just fine. no problems all the way home ( hour and a half drive from Toledo to Ann Arbor) next morning, same routine. this would be intermittent, some days it would be fine, some not. Now however, as of this afternoon it will not run period. It cranks over just fine, bright lights, good battery connection, even with a jumper/charger hooked up, still does the same thing. Cranks over, as soon as it fires, it stops. Anyone know what this could be? Ive got to figure this out by tomorrow, its my transportation to work.

Bad luck there. If I were betting, I'd say the computer is dead. It could be the connections to the computer are bad. Or maybe a ground on the TIPM is bad. Try shaking the wire harness near the computer(passenger side firewall), then try starting. Then if that doesn't work, jiggle the wires on under the fuse block(TIPM) to see if maybe there is just a loose connection.

Went and bought a scanner, followed the steps given with the scanner, no codes were found, nothing failed, it connected to the ECU with no problems and when I ran the diagnostics, no codes were found. Would this still be indicative of an ECU failure like you said?

Default update

tried moving the harness around, checked all the sensor connectors I could get to. jiggled the wires around underneath the fuse box and ECU, still nothing. Had it towed to the local shop. We'll see what they say.

So, the truck arrived at the shop around 9am, I called at 4:40, Asked if they had made any progress, they said no, that the owner has been out there looking at it for about 2 hours and cant figure it out. What gives?

My guess, it's ECU or wiring. ECU can fail and not throw a code at all. Sucks when it does that.

Wait... Fuel pump. Plugged fuel filter. But low fuel pressure would throw a code I think.

Maybe SKIM module failure?

Was the shop able to figure out the problem?

Default Nailed it

Well, At first we thought it was a security system failure from the way it would kill the ignition on start up and then not be able to crank it again without cycling the key all the way back to lock before starting again. So the shop owner suggested having it towed to Chrysler. Once it got to Chrysler they found out that even though my truck has manual locks and windows, it still has a full on board security system. Well, everything checked out I guess because the Chrysler mechanics were inclined to pull the PCM out of an 05 Ram that was sitting on the lot for sale, put it in my truck, my truck fired right up and purred. They shut it off, and somehow my security system or something, fried the PCM from the 05. Id never heard of this before, So Im wondering what actually caused the perfectly fine PCM from the 05 to be fried after it worked soooo well? But yes, Its the PCM/ECU that was causing the problems all along. I guess that explains why I lost cruise control about a month before it stopped....starting.

LOL, the dealership's swapping of the PCM fried the other one. There could be a short on your wiring that is frying the computer, but them running yours off the other computer probably just locked it.
