Default 33s wont fit

hi guys i have a 2008 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 big horn. i ordered a set of 33/12.50r20 mud grapplers for the stock 20s. I got a call from the tire guy who is installing them and said that they dont fit because they are rubbing the control arm. he also told me wheel spacers wont work because the studs arent long enough. i have a 2.5in leveling kit and was sure it would fit. my truck isnt aligned and the wheels tilt in a good bit i was wondering if thats why. let me know what you guys think. thanks

everyone usually uses a spacer for this exact issue, what size spacer is he trying to use? It should work from what i've read. If not....you might be investing in a offest rim my friend.

Spacers will work, your stock studs and wheel nuts tighten down the spacers and the spacers have their own wheel studs

Couple of things....

The stock 20" tire size is a 33" tire. Your problem isn't that 33's won't fit, it's that 12.50's won't fit. At least not on a 2006-up truck with stock rims and without spacers. You should be able to run those tires with 1/4" slip-on spacers that leave plenty of lug stud to bolt up to. This has been discussed many times and there are lots of guys running 1/4" spacers with no issues.

As for the alignment, I'm not sure if your wheels could be leaned in far enough to make a difference but I would say it's possible. The 12.50's will rub the upper control arm even with a perfect alignment until you get those spacers but it could be making it worse. I'm sure you know you need an alignment anyway. No sense in wearing out those new tires!

What he said. It's the width, not the diameter thats the problem. You might as well run some 34-35 inch tires with a more narrow width. My Nitto TG's (295/60/20) are 12.13" wide, no rub, no spacers, but almost 35" tall. I see a lot of members running the BFG AT's 285/65/20's ... taller but no rub, etc. Good luck

thanks for the input guys. Im going to probably buy wheels and the ones ive been looking at are the pro comp 7031. they have 5in of backspacing and 0mm offset. Will the mud grapplers fit if i have these wheels? Another thing is i cant have them stick out cause i really dont want to have fender flares on a non lifted truck.

another option is trail grapplers. Anybody know if they will fit on a stock wheel, if so what size, or on these pro comp wheels.

0 offset you should be ok, if I remember correctly the stockers are +40 something offset. You might even be able to run a 12.5 of another type of tire without a spacer, but I've got those Mud Grapplers on my K5 and the sidewall lugs are HUGE. Besides the treat width they're adding another inch or so overall, if not more.

06-08 will need spacers with stock rims if you are trying to fit 12.50 or 305-55-20.

Stock offset is not +40, it's actually about +18 (maybe +19, can't remember). That being said, dropping to a zero offset rim of the same width will bring it out from under the truck by that 18mm (0.7") difference or nearly three times as much as a 1/4" spacer. So, I would say you should have plenty of room. Keep in mind though that they are going to stick out a little. On top of the fact that the rims are going to be pushed out 0.7" more than stock, you are also putting a wider tire on there that is going to squeeze out a little more as well. Not sure if the combo will stick out enough to need flares or not. Would be nice if you could find someone with that combo to see how much it will stick out.
