I got mine last week, but it was only a notice that there is a problem, but they don't have the parts to fix it yet. I called my local dealer and they said they knew of the recall, but they didn't have any parts yet and haven't been told anything by Chrysler on when parts will be available.

Nothing better then knowing there is a possible issue with your truck, Chrysler acknowledging there is a problem, but no idea when they will be able to fix it.

Just got my notice today too. Does anyone have any idea when the parts to fix it will be available. I love being told that I could have a potentially horrible crash when I'm driving down the interstate just because the idiots at the factory forgot something that is basically loctite.

if it's such a simple fix...has no one found a do it yourself solution? instead of waiting on the dealer

Default Beware of pinion nut!!!

My advise to you is to get rid of your vehicle that is effected by this recall. Dodge's fix is just a retainer t be put on over this nut to hold it in place. They do not plan to replace anything because their are almost 400,000 vehicles effected by this recall. I received my first recall Dec, 2012. I took it in and the dealer said the part was not available at that time and that I would receive a second recall when the parts were available. Well I received my second recall on Jun 27, 2013 and was driving to Anchorage that weekend so would get it fixed when I got back. WELL as I got to Anchorage it failed. My pinion nut came loose seizing my rear drive shaft at 25-30 MPH and shearing off my drive shaft. Needless to say I was stranded. The truck only had 31000 miles on it and what happened after that I only hope does not happen to anyone else. Dodge played the "Tap Dance" like you would or believe. They gave me such a run around that it was not even funny. It took almost 2 weeks to get my truck fixed and a rental car bill, that they said they were going to pay but failed to get the paperwork set up, of over $300. I have gotten rid of this vehicle and glad I did because all that they replaced was the drive shaft that had been drug across the ground for about 60ft. I saw the gears in the differential that were chewed up as well and they told me that they were going to replace them also but did not. I feel for whoever gets this truck because it is just a matter of time before something else goes wrong with the drivetrain.

I suggest you don't get rid of the truck because Ram is stepping up and doing something more than just a retainer. They are getting parts in and performing this recall. I am sorry you had such a bad experience however you are one in 440,000 trucks that I am sure will get fixed and remain road worthy.

I just had this completed on my Ram two weeks about here in North Carolina.

For my truck they actually replaced all of the internals:

Default Is it truck depenant?

Arth,
I just checked with my dealer and they are having me bring the truck in for an inspection. I suppose based on your experience, what they find on that inspection will determine just what gets done to fix the problem. Were the internals in your diff hosed or did they just do it as precaution (doubt they would err on the safe side). Do you have pics of your diff internals that got replaced?

Arth,

I am glad it worked out well for you. The dealership has a lot to do with how you are treated. I bought the truck in Kentucky but being military I moved to Alaska so they don't know me very well yet. Even after it locked up and chewed up the gear a little and they also told me they were going to replace the gears they did not according to the maintenance receipt. Wish you the best but Dodge has sealed their fate with me. Won't own one ever again.
