here's my take based on my own experience and this only applies to me but you get the idea... i had my exhaust setup (muffler is dual 3" in/single 3.5" out) built the way I wanted to because i was afraid that true duals was too much flow even for my lt headers/custom cam/bv heads setup. But since I had dual cutouts right after the Y, I could open them wide open whenever i wanted. Then I went to a test and tune and because there weren't many cars running, I decided to try all sorts of scenerios...cutout's closed the whole run, cutouts openned the whole run, cutouts openned halfway down the track. These runs were done on motor only as i haven't installed spray yet at this point. Numerous runs I came to the conclusion that my truck ran slower with the cutouts openned (partly or all the way)...it was a consistent .2 every almost every single time. That day (almost 100 degree weather) I ran 13.4's closed and 13.6's open..

now, with that said, it all changed when i started spraying and my times got better when I left the cutouts openned... this tells me that a wide open exhaust will work well with high hp applications (500hp+)... so, there is a delicate balance on how much is too much, but, it does indicate that there is a 'too much' setup...again, this applies to me and at wot runs..at lower rpms it will hurt..

the thing is..we need to specify what works on Rams because a 5.7 Ram and let's say a 5.7 Charger are 2 separate animals...what works on a Charger doesn't necessarily work on the Ram...even down to custom tuning. I used to be tuned by a very reputable tuner on the lx platforms, I think when he tuned my truck I was only the 2nd or 3rd one he's done. My truck ran great until I had a Ram specific tuner look and tweak my tune, the power came on much sooner and all of a sudden I was running 12's NA.
