Default Ball Joint problems- 5100's install

does anybody on here have any tips or tricks to poppin ball joints?? Last weekend it tried installing my Bilstiens. Took off the wheel, moved the brake caliper, unbolted the sway bar link and steering link and the upper control arm, loosened the lower strut bolt. I went to pop the ball joint with a 5lb sledge.. wouldnt pop. Beat in the pickle fork.. still wouldnt pop! and had to put it ALLLL back together. Is there something im missing here or do i need to just beat the hell out of it to pop out! Im gonna give it another shot this weekend. Hopefully ill have better luck

This is what we use. Perhaps you can locate something similar at a parts store with a tool loan program. https://millerspecialtools.spx.com/Detail.aspx?id=604

Don't strike on the ball joint itself, use the hammer to strike the control arm..this does the trick 99% of the time. However, your local parts store should have a ball joint removal tool..awkard to use, but works.

A little trick I have tried. Find a nut the same size as the crown nut on your joint. Pull the crown nut off and install the sacrificial nut so that the threads arent quite all the way thru. Switch back and forth between the side of the knuckle near the offending joint and striking the sacraficial nut to pop the joint out.
