Default Stupid Question(s)

Is there really a safe way to increase gas milage, such as some of the "chips" that are advertised on the forum here, as well as other sites? And what about air filter systems such as K&N? Do these products deliver as promised? And do they negate the factory warranties?

I would say that there is very little you can do about about gas mileage, unless you drive something other than a truck.

There are several programmers on the market that work well for what they're designed to do. I don't believe any of them claim to do much for your fuel mileage.

A K&N drop in filter is a good investment. It's greatest advantage isn't that you will get better mileage or performance (though K&N I believe claims some sort of performance gain), it's the fact that it's the one and only filter that you'll ever need to purchase for your truck. It'll cost you $50-$60 right off the bat, but you won't be paying $15-$20 for a new filter every time it gets dirty.

The programmers do void a portion of your warranty IF you get caught with 'em. I believe most can be removed before dealer servicing, and don't leave a trace. The drop in filters, CAI, exhaust, etc. won't void anything, provided they're properly installed.

Good luck

Exco

I have the Diablosport intune, MOPAR CAI. It has helped some on MPG's. It has not went down and I have a more responsive RAM. Summer time is the only time you may/can increase fuel economy. Winter sucks. No use trying. Warm ups, snowy slippery roads, tire spin, 4x4 mode. Winter gas all lead to very bad MPG's.

Some of those mods might increase MPG, but you have to factor in the cost of them when calculating any change in mileage. I have a good $1100 invested just in my CAI, exhaust and tuner. It would take quite a while to make up that difference if you are concerned about increasing MPG. $1100 exta can buy alot of gas.

When you take a hemi V8 engine full of enviromental controls, extra belts and pulleys and all the polution gear crap that's on the engine it's a wonder we can get some horse power and what gas milage we have as it is. I'm from the old school you can either get power or gas milage but you can't get both .... unless you have a BMW, porche or some sort of foreign car... notice I said car not truck.

If you could get a 5 speed overdrive standard in the hemi's you would get more milage but the money you save would have to go towards tires but I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Bottem line you could spend a lot of money trying to get 2 or 3 extra mpg at best. If you want to save money keep your foot off the accelarator but that's not why we bought these trucks.
