wow, how are you guys getting any performance at that level. I played with the rpms for quite a while and I settled on letting it shift at the stock programmed times. Whenever I pushed the motor past 5600rpms, it fell flat on its face, no torque and it didn't want to pull anymore. I got slower and slower times the more I messed with it, and got my best performance at the 5500rpm shift time, even at 5600rpms, it really slowed down my truck!

I understand if your built with higher flowing heads and what not, but poeple were saying that the topend was stock?,, I know one fast hemi has gotten some stuff!

But these aren't junkyard motors, they have to live long and earn that title. chefred is one of the few lucky ones who wound up with a good engine build from the start. He's definitely earned his opinion here so I'm not trying to step on his toes but he doesn't have a stock top end. I've always had my suspicions that beating it up and driving it hard toughened them up so I guess ya never know. Sounds a little crazy but it's about the only reasonable explanation I can imagine you doing this, lol!
The reason you shift 2-3 hundred rpm's higher than you make power is when you shift to the next gear it doesn't fall back as far so your higher up in the power band.

If you look at the dyno of a 4G motor it is still making power above 5800 RPM even in stock form.
If your shifting at stock RPM your not going to drop your times very much.

My truck is still making power at 6800, it might not be as much as it is at 6000, but it is still pulling hard. I have ran a bunch of different ways and 6500 shifts are where I get my best resuts. hodgeee, maybe your intake and exhaust aren't liking the high rpm, but a lot of us have great results reving up past 6k.

I have also seen now that you are running a 2007 hemi before the VVT setup. I have driven my friends truck, and yeah that motor setup pulls strong to about 6200rpms from driving his, he has his tuned to that level. I was told by my tune guy that the VVT motors still pull after 6000rpms on the HP side, but falls super flat on the torque curve past 5500rpms due to the newer truck manifold. Not the best for performance. He told me that is why it feels dead when I changed my shift points. Anything I did past 5500 got me slower numbers and the higher I went the slower again my performance fell off. He said it is highly recommended that I change my intake out to a 6.1 or 6.4 intake once I get my VVT cam and heads installed. He told me that he will tune it to about 6300rpms on the shift points, with that setup. He said that even with the heads and cam the stock truck manifold is way setup for lowend torque, and this motor will performe much better that way.

I even noticed driving a challenger with the autostick, it shifted at about 6100 1 to 2, and about 5800rpms at all the other gear changes. I was told this is also why he never adjusted the shift points on my custom tune!

with my comp 273 and stock heads it was pulling hard at 7k shifts and 5k recovery shifts. shift light and ratchet shifter helped but would still bang the limiter at times so decided to go with a more mid-top end cam vs all top end. now it pulls really hard up to 6500. This is with the crane 216, BV heads and 6.1 manifold.

Well just so yall all know. bluebest is the fastest n/a 4gen on this forum and its because he can run the rpm's up so high. I don't think he run's it up to 6,800 but I do know when he's in 3rd gear he run's it well above 6,000 and that's where he walk's off from me!!!!
