Default 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Not sure if anyone has see this yet or even heard about it but the Jeep Liberty is canned and in its place for 2014 is the newly resurrected Jeep Cherokee. I must say that in my opinion they have completely ruined a legendary Jeep name. For comparison, here's a picture of a square body Jeep cherokee, one of the greatest smaller off road vehicles ever made:

This thing is amazing in every way, great engine, unbreakable transmission, solid axle front and rear, tough looks...just a great little off and on roader.

Well here's what the fine people at Chrysler came up with for the NEW Cherokee:

Not only does it look like a kia or nissan but its also FRONT WHEEL DRIVE! This is basically a Jeep Compass with a different body on it. I don't know what engine or trans will be in it (I'm guessing the new 3.2L and 9 speed) but to me this is a disgrace to the Cherokee, I'm not saying its ugly or anything because I don't think it looks horrible, its not too bad. I'm just saying I really wish they would have given this thing a different name.

What do you guys think? Am I out of line here or is this just not right?

Maybe They'll do better with the Grand Wagoneer

I agree ............. a 2000 Cherokee save my Fiance's life when she went 2 FEET into the side of a mini van driven by a little old lady who turned on red in front of her. It totaled the Cherokee mainly because of age but at 45mph into a basically a mini van wall it didn't take alot of damage. It was a tough SUV

Agree, but disagree. They are probably looking at marketshare here. They needed something to compete with the new range rovers and sporty small suv's and it looks like this is their answer. They already have a great offroader with the wrangler, and 4 door wrangler so they needed something to fill gaps.
Not saying I'm excited about it, but I get what they are doing.
PS. Always loved Cherokee's.

They are all doing this. Chevy dumped the blazer for the trail blazer and then dumped that for the traverse. Ford completely changed the explorer from a nice off road SUV to a grocery getter

I understand the need for a crossover type suv but don't tarnish the cherokee name.

Jeep has brought the Pontiac Aztek back for us to enjoy.

Can anyone really see themselves doing "Jeep Things" with that?????????

Wife drives a 2011 Jeep Compass so as a Jeep owner I give them a "F" on the Cherokee.

I owned a 98 Cherokee from 2002 until 2008 when I hit a deer and it got wrote off...I had the inline 6 (best motor I ever had IMO). That little Cherokee was amazing...this new one, while I think is but ugly, should not have a Cherokee badge anywhere on it. You guys should read some of the Jeep forums...guys are going completely nuts over this lol...nice break from reading about the ecoboost fails over at the Ford forum...

If i were inclined to buy a Jeep
I would want a large v-8, say a 6.2L or 6.4L
8 speed
4 wheel drive
winch
air compressor
ready for the trails & rocks
heavier sheet metal, not like a Ram sheet metal

My Brother still daily drives my old 98 Jeep Cherokee. When I went to CO, he left the emissions test on the dining room table for me to read. That 4.0 engine still passed like it was brand new, and it has 223,000 miles on it. Best engine EVER created.

I've always hated any Jeep that did not have a solid axle front end. IMO a "Jeep" with an independent front end is not a Jeep, much less a "Jeep" that is front drive and NOT a 4X4. They can't build the Wrangler fast enough to meet the demand now why the hell are they even trying to whussify a legend like this? Makes me want to puke! Americans are either getting weak or are perceived as being weak by vehicle manufacturers. HUGE pet pieve of mine when it comes to buying a vehicle that fits me as a real man not some nanny loving city dweller whose butt might get sore while driving to work because he has a solid front axle! Anyway, yes the new "Cherokee" sucks donkey balls!
