I've got the Solo 44 cat-back, which sounds exactly like the video on Solo's website. That being said, my guess would be the Solo 40 will sound almost the same, just slightly quieter due to your re-using your stock tips, as opposed to the 2 foot long tips that came with my cat-back. I really am happy with this set-up. #1 Quality all the way. I know this probably doesn't answer your question. I would call Solo and ask them directly about the difference, as well as the sound as compared with the complete cat-back. Hope this helps in some way.

The Mach 44 catback and the Mach 40 bolt on are similar. I would say that the difference is that the Mach 44 catback has a more full tone. They are both deep, mean, and aggressive...and both are non-intrusive in the cabin. You will get a bit more power from the catback as well. The catback will also help to enhance any other airflow mods you do, such as an intake, header, or higher flowing converter. The bolt on muffler is more for the enthusiast on a budget that just wants some more sound. They are both fantastic...it just depends on what your plans are for the truck! Thanks and feel free to call me with any questions.
