I owned 4 Tundras before going to Ram. Two of the Tundras were 2nd Gen. Nuf said.

All brands of vehicles have their good points...and shortcomings. Just drive by any dealership's service bays and they are always busy. Also the Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge vs Toyota debates was old 20 years ago and quite frankly is even more tiresome today by hearing all the same old cliches and arguments being re-hashed and re-hashed...

In today's world, vehicles are much more technically complicated and interface with computer management systems that we could of never dreamed about 10-15 years ago. So a perspective purchaser must really understand and be comfortable with what you may be purchasing as it is no longer just a vehicle with 4 tires and engine, rather it is a technological marvel in all regards. Furthermore, it is up to you as the prospective purchaser to do your research and homework before you ever sign on the dotted line. Not saying the OP did this, however too many people go out and purchase a vehicle and have high expectations for that vehicle. A few days/weeks/months down the road, the now owner is upset and disappointed as the vehicle is not living up to what they thought it was. But alas, who can they really blame and point the finger at?

Before I purchased my 2012 Ram, I spent a few months, researching online, watching the market, asking endless questions at dealers, going for test drives in different brands and models of trucks before I decided to stay with Ram. Was/am I disappointed in my purchase? Not in the least. I know exactly the good points about my truck...and it's few short comings. At this juncture, I know I have made the right vehicle purchase for me and have no regrets whatsoever.

On a related note, my G/F was shopping for a new car last summer and we did the exact same research process and she did not settle on a car until well into the late fall. Now she has a new 2013 car on order and I know she will enjoy that new car when it arrives.

Yea, I'm not sorry to hear your displeasure w/ your ram purchase friend. Just sorry for the mention of the lack of a vanity mirror. I do believe you sat down w/ the sales people before you paid 36G for something that wasn't what you wanted. Ya see I paid about 4G more for my Laramie & I was so excited to take ownership that I over looked things like paint & body quality & the miss match of interior colors, in addition little nonsense like I have locks on my wheel lugs but no plain lugs. There should've been 4 plain ones left over in a bag for me. Stuff like that makes me feel stupid about my purchase. Down the road a piece I noticed other draw backs to my new ram like: lag in throttle response. Wind noise in the cab when at highway speeds. The constant searching of gear selection by the transmission. The annoying fuel slosh/ bump or drive train bump noise. Those things should be resolved had chrysler been a competent & responsible auto manufacturer. That all said I looked at all the American auto makers & compared their 4 door 4x4 pickup trucks w/ v8 power trains. Looks, Styling, interior styling, horse power & torque to fuel eco ratio, ride comfort & pricing. I have to admit ram won hands down... There's no way the other trucks American or foreign have the same ride quality, power & good looks. My cousin has an F150 & he even shouted how much nicer my truck rides. My best friend has a silverado, the interior of the truck looks like a taxi cab. Hell I was a chevy guy all my life. This is my first chrysler product & aside from all that I've mentioned thats negative I really like my truck. Now in regards to your tundra choice. WHY? They're butt ugly have less hp & torque. Get worse fuel eco. Their interior is budget & they're japanese! What more could you need to deter purchase of a tundra! Oh & they're racing division is the abbreviation for a a small piece of fecal matter! Come on man do you really wanna drive a terd!

Father in Law has a 07 Tundra with 80k miles and IT SUCKS ON FUEL. Same sensor has gone out on him 6 times since he bought it. Good thing is Toyota recalled this particular sensor, bad thing is when it goes haywire you cannot exceed 20 mph. Last time it went out on him he was in CANADA! Pretty hard to get back to Illinois from Canada doing 20. Toyota claims they fixed the issue years ago and this sensor still goes bad on him periodically.

Prior to the Toyota he owned a 06 Silverado he bought brand new (also bought tundra brand new). The Silverado was traded in 1 year later with 7,000 miles on it and the following issues:

1)Leaking Transmission fluid (dealer fixed twice)
2)Electrical issue of some sort dealer never figured out - truck would not start and if it did would stop when it wanted to.
3)Numerous problems with pulsating brake pedal.
4)could not drive in rain cause both rear doors would leak water in, another issue dealer addressed twice without fixing.

He took a $12,000 hit on it to buy the Tundra.

Point to me writing this is ALL vehicles will have issues. I have seen these two first hand with my own eyes so no BS here. This is why warranties exist.

If price is no object for you, go try another brand but you won't get the amount of truck you have now for the price you paid. Good Luck!

I'm sure I could just deal with the short comings as opposed to spending another 10k in mods

Yeah I suppose the truck has a few quarks to it like all the rest do. My gas mileage is atrocious because I can't stop driving the damn thing. For the last 3 years I have driven 8,500 miles a year, I bought this truck and have been driving 3,500 miles a month. Same house, same job, same everything.

Good luck to you in your search for a better car, because there is no better truck.

Bought 92 Dakota 5.2 new
This truck has some issues Trans issue@ 36000 miles warrant repair ,
Air conditioner out 31000 miles warranty repair .
Sold it to sister in law in 2007 with 176000 miles still running strong .
She is still driving it today with 226000 miles still running stong & only uses 1/2 quart oil between 5000 mile oil changes .
Fast foward to 2013 2 Tacomas & 1 Tundra later i am now back into a New purchased 2012 5.7 2500 4x4 Ram
I have put 1200 miles on this truck in 3 weeks .
Gas mileage not great but this is what i expected going into this size model truck .
Looked @ the new Tundras,GM'S & Ford trucks .
Could not justify 10.000 more for less a truck ,
Does the Dodge have shortcomings?sure it does but i got what i needed ,am happy with the price & hope to keep this truck for the next 10 to 12 years .
Good luck with your decision
P.S a little Gorilla glue & a womans make up mirror will resolve the driver side vanity mirror issue (just sayin)
