Default Give me your opinion on these mods please (to do or not to do)

Some of you may have read in other threads that I am kinda changing the appearance of my truck. I recently lowered/leveled it with rear drop shackles and hopefully by the weekend I will be installing the OEM Mopar tailgate spoiler. There are a few things I have been pondering on that I would like opinions on. I have researched the practical side of things and read reviews so I'm not really looking for that type of advice. I want your opinion based on appearance alone. Give me your opinions on these three areas. And keep in mind how these mods will look with each other when deciding. Thanks everyone....I'm listening!!!

1. Remove or leave the SS bed rails? I like them but going for more of a sport truck look I think it would look better without them.

2. Tires. Lots of options here. Thinking of swapping to a sporty looking street tire. Should I keep the Cooper Zeon LTZs or swap? If I swap should I stick with the stock 275/60/20 or go to a 305/50/20? I really want the wider tire but I'm a little afraid the one inch shorter (305/50) will look too short. If I stick with 275/60 I'm going with Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus. If I go with 305/50 I am either going with the H/T Plus or the Nitto 420s.

3. Should I remove the overload springs to get the extra 1/2-3/4" drop?

Here's a pic I snapped right after the shackle install last week. It's a poorly posed shot, the lighting was bad, and the truck was dirty but you get the idea, lol.

If you want sporty, take off the rails and drop just a bit. I wouldn't personally go with a shorter sidewall, but that's just me. Oh, and get a Craven Stubby antenna to replace the garage door scraper! Great looking truck, by the way.

Thanks for the reply and the compliment. Yeah, I hate the stock antenna but I don't want to lose FM reception. For the relatively low price I may try it anyway.

I know there are others with opinions out there. Come on with them! I've pretty much decided to take the rails off but I'm really undecided about the tires. I'm afraid 305/50/20's will look too short. So I'm wondering if the extra 3/4"drop from removing the OL springs will make enough difference.

Bed rails, remove

O/l leaf, remove if you dont tow anything heavy

And, i had 285/50/20 h/t plus on my 06 nightrunner QC (it came with em) and it wasnt that bad at all. One note on the h/t plus, iirc, they werent that great in the rain. If you have a heavy foot, take it easy turning in the rain especially if you have the LSD like i did!! Lol.

Alright, the bed rails are gone....off and sold already, lol. So that takes care of one decision.

Still looking for more opinions on the tires and additional lowering. I'm pretty sure I want to switch to a street tire. Right now I'm thinking either leave the suspension alone and throw on a set of Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus in 275/60 or pull the overload springs to get the extra 1/2-3/4" drop and throw on a set of 305/50 Nitto 420s.

I wouldn't do a shorter tire. It will put a gap back in your wheel well and negate the visual effect you gained from lowering it in the first place. JMO.

Pull the ol springs,it will look better and doesn't affect your ability to haul the everyday type of stuff that you haul. Go with the stock size tires, I run the copper ht plus on a stock size and they fill the wheel well nicely with the drop you are talking about. I can also tell you that about a month ago I had a flat and the spare on my truck is a 305 50 (got it at the junk yard just to replace my old rotted spare). Anyway when I got the flat and put the spare on it looked too small in the wheel well. That shorter size looks better on a truck that is a little lower than your truck is.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have been kinda leaning towards the stock size. I really, really want the width of the 305. I think that width in a sport/street tire would really give me that sport truck look that I want but like you guys have said, I'm afraid it would look too short. The next issue is that they don't really make any really aggressive street tires (like the Nitto 420s for example) in our stock size. The Cooper H/T Plus is about the most aggressive I have found and while I do like it and I am a fan of Cooper tires, it's still not quite as aggressive as I would like.

ORT, how does your truck sit compared to this one that I found online? All I know about it is that it is 2wd and running 305/50/20 Nitto 420s. This is the look I would like to have but I'm guessing this truck is lowered with more than shackles and OL removal.
