Default So you wanna bolt on HP???

I was poking around this morning and came across this...looked interesting although at a price, like horsepower normally does..http://www.andysautosport.com/dodge/...c20001082.html

Anyone have experience with this, what are your thoughts???

Procharger is a great unit, there used to be a Dakota around here with a built 408 with a Procharger. It sure sounded bad, but he totaled it. Before I bought my Ram, I drove a Tacoma with the TRD blower. It took a lot of work to get the crappy Tacoma's rear suspension to handle the extra 100+ rwhp. So you might also discover that a blower on a 318 might be too much for stock transmission or differential. Also you might have some tuning issues. It's one thing to build a blown drag car, a bit different to build a blown street driver.

The stock driveline, especially the rear axle can easily handle the extra power. However, they are made to do the advertised level of work, with the facotry power ratings as dictated by the bean-counters. There's reserve capability built in, unlike other types. Even the 8 1/4-8 3/8 rear can handle 300hp stock. The 9 1/4 handles more. Both can be built to handle considerably more fairly easily. If you want to make a hot rod, just remember it'll last like you drive it. The harder you push, the shorter it'll last. The only way to counter that i to rebuild with aftermarket performance (beefier) parts.

+1 to that, Gen1dak... one think Ive learned from building numerous cars over the year is that adding typical bolt on upgrades is easy enough, but when you are considering any type of forced induction, substantial platform modifications are necessary. In addition to head gaskets, bearings and rings, consideration needs to be paid to compression ratio within the cylinder, and depending on the amount of boost you are targeting, mainstud girdles, cam selection, injector size and exhaust flow will all come into play. When I suggested that a supercharger is "bolt on HP", I did so tongue in cheek lol. People should realize that when you wanna add 100+HP to your powerplant, it costs a lot more than the price of the kit.
