Default Worried to buy hemi 2013 sport

Hi guys,

I am new to this forum and to RAM trucks. I currently drive Ford 2012 Screw Ecoboost and wanting to trade in my truck with the new 2013 RAM crew cab sport (fully loaded). Nothing is wrong with my truck and the Ecoboost runs like a charm with lots of power (MPG not so great). I guess, I should have waited few month for the 2013 RAMs to come out before taking the plunge with Ford. The RAM sports trim looks to great and the interior just makes me wanna buy this right now.

The only thing that is worrying me is something called HEMI "tick" or "knock" I see often on this forum. Is this a normal occurrence with the new 2013 Hemi or just the with previous models? I noticed that its mostly with 2009 - 2012 year models. Does it occur with brand new motors? The last thing I would want is to buy this truck and the following day noticing this sound from the hood.

I just want to perform my due diligence before committing myself for the next few years. I would really appreciate any inputs regarding this matter. Thx

Years back I had a 2004 HEMI sport. It had that tick. Was told by the dealer ya normal. I replace plugs to something other then dodge brands and it never ticked again. As for the new ones.....don't hear anything fr mine.

Default Engine vibrations and noises

There isn't an engine in the world that doesn't have some pronounced "apparent" noise. Belts, fuel injectors, alternators, pumps, vacuum devices - they all transmit vibrations and noises.
Fuel grades and oil selections are often the cause.
Nothing to avoid a RAM truck over.

Welcome to the RamforumZ
you will hear the HEMI TICK, it is nothing to worry about
my '09 has about 82,000 miles on it & there has been no issues with the engine
I changed to synthetic oil & the tick quieted down even more
the tick only lasts for maybe a minute & then everything runs smooth

The Ram V-6 doesn't get quite the MPG that the ECO Boost does & it is a bit slower
The new 8 speed transmission helped a lot with that

The HEMI engine with the 8 speed transmission just came out this month, so not many people have tried them out yet

If your worried about what you read on Internet forums you would have never bought an ecoboost. This is my second hemi and it runs fine. Internet blows things out of proportion, the majority of hemi engines are bullet proof.

If you like the ecoboost, wait a couple months for the 1/2 ton diesel from dodge. They haven't released final specs yet, but it should drive similar to the ecoboost.

I just traded my 2011 Ecoboost for a 2013 Sport. The Hemi is a noisy motor while running, but so was the 5.4L (hell, all the injectors on Ford). To me, the Hemi actually sounds like a diesel when standing outside the engine compartment.....to the me that is noisy, but nothing is wrong with, just how it is.

My MPG with my ecoboost wsa 2-3mpg better than what I am getting with this Hemi (ecoboost had 3.73, Ram has 3.55 rear gear). Off the line with the Hemi is less than the ecoboost but mid-range and top of the Hemi is more than the Ecoboost stock, IMO.

The interior and exterior styling and finishes tempted be over to the other side. I have the 6 speed, though I would have probably bought the 8 speed if they had it on the lot.
