flowmasters aren't as free flowing as a through muffler such as magnaflow....so if you are just going for sound then I wouldn't worry about the y-pipe. People change the y pipe because it's restrictive and they are trying to free up some exhaust flow. So they do a magnaflow muffler with new y-pipe.

Idk about the resonator, i dont have a 4th gen and I've never heard the differences with or without. If you want loud, take them off! not sure what the difference is though.

Most of the Flowmaster guys are loving the 50 series and super 10 over the 44.

Same truck and I've been thinking the same setup. Magnaflow also looked good.

I got a single 44 on my stock exhaust.. i cut the pipe 4 inches after the muffler and had it dumping under the box with no resonator.. You can hear me well before you saw me.. Only problem was the MDS droan.. I ended up putting the resonator pipe back on.. Sounds real nice and still loud.. I just don't happen to drown out the sounds of 18 wheelers on the hwy anymore.

how would a flowmaster 10 compare to the 44,, also is the ECO drone really loud without resonators ??

The 10 is intended to be louder but apparently the 44 is a bit more cleaner?
I think ECO is the same as MDS.. when it shuts down the cylinders... It was real bad for me because I had the pipe dumping around the axel, and it would echo off the box.. Apparently the resonator helps quiet the droan.. which I did notice.. but will quiet it a bit. If you do a full pipe system after the muffler off of the truck, it may not be as bad.. but don't have a real answer to that.

The 10 is very loud.. I was going to get it, but in the end I am glad I went with the 44's because I think the 10's and the MDS would have drove me crazy.

i love my super 44. I spent quite a few months taking my time and talking to people and listening to other peoples trucks and even listening to clips on youtube. In the end I thought that flowmaster 44's sound matched the look of my truck. The 50 is also a nice one which would have been my second choice. The 10 is to loud and raspy and the the 40's made it sound like a muscle car -which it isnot. The tone didnt fit the truck if you catch my drift. I love it and wouldnt change it. Oh and by the way I am in it for the sound - not the performance.

^ That is pretty much exactly how I picked mine too. Actually I listened to UserJ8670 video he posted on my thread asking about super 44's a while back.

Everyone has their personal preference with the sound.. Hell with the resonator on, I kinda like the sound of the MDS Droan.. The 10's would be pretty intense, hwy driving could get annoying.
