Default Magnaflow 12579 vs 12589

In the past I have had two Magnaflow mufflers on my truck, I small 6" round (loud) and a bigger # 12279 (sounded good but I didn't like the drone)

I am now running a '09 take off factory muffler with dual tailpipes. It is quiet but I know it flows like crap and I kinda miss the sound.

When I redo my exhaust a Magnaflow Y-pipe is going in and it will be a single 3" system.

Looking at Magnaflow mufflers # 12579 (two 2.5" cores) and 12589 (single 3" core) Both are a large muffler at 5x11x22.

I'm sure both would fit the bill. Just wondering if anyone is running these? Note my 05 does not has left factory resonatos on it anymore. Thanks.

If I am not mistaken the single core will flow better

Thanks

If you are doing a single 3" exhaust you need a 3" core right? You are talking about the inlet and outlet pipe size of the muffler?

that's what it sounds like, either a 3" single in/2.5" dual out or 3"in/3"out... my vote also is for the 3" single in an out....

Let me clear up what I was trying to say. The Magnaflow 12579 is a 3" in/out center/center but has two 2.5" cores vs. a single 3" core like the 12589 and other 3" straight through mufflers would be.

I was told the dual cores help soak up more noise vs a single core.

...the 5 x 11 bodies are better to eliminate the drone (I've run a 4 x 9 and it droned), the 5 x 11 I have now doesnt drone at all..

I have narrowed it down to 2 mufflers.

Magnaflow 12579 (5x11x22 dual core)
Flowmaster 853057 (Super 50 stainless steel) 5x10x17

I have a Magnaflow Y-pipe, 3" stainless tailpipe and 4" exhaust tip sitting on workbench. I just need to pick a muffler and get to the exhaust shop.
