Default Hemi tick at idle

Hi guys I just picked up my 11 sport quad cab yesterday. I love the truck but I have a few issues that are taking the new truck glory away. First one is the iPhone issue and second is I hear a tick at idle that sounds like a bad lifter, most noticeable in a drive thru or pulling into the garage. I have read that hemis tick. If this noise is normal that is fine. Are they all doing it. Is there a certain 5w20 oil I should use at the first oil change. The truck sat for 6 months on the lot, will the noise come out of it. I can't believe Dodge would consider this normal and I don't want my new truck taken apart. Thanks guys.

Mike

sometimes i think that mine makes a slight noise, i have the tendency to pick things apart...i also own a 2007 charger and occasionally when like pulling into a bank drivethrough i think i hear something..but i believe you would hear it more pronounced going down the road if it was a lifter..if you really think its something to it then i would have it checked out..

Hemi tick has been around since they started making these new hemi's in 03. It was pretty commonplace in 3rd gens and it sounds like it is also common in the 4th gen. My truck had it until I did my cam swap. I am guessing the longer pushrods that I installed helped eliminate the tick bc after the cam swap the tick was gone.

Yeah the tick is just normal, it is just the valvetrain making noise. You can try running a slightly thicker oil to help with the problem, but i dont know if itll work in these trucks, its a trick us LS guys used to use (run 0-40 instead of 5-30) and a lot of the time it would quiet them up a bit as they are known to have a loud valvetrain aswell

I can't believe my first new truck sounds like a ticking old one at idle. It has 1000 km on it now. Are you guys recommending changing the break in oil early. I know there is allot of different theries on this. What type of synthetic oil are most running in the new  Style Hemis?

My '11 r/t would tick for a few seconds on start up. At 1000 miles I switched to mobil1 5w20 and wix oil filter. Have 4000 miles and never heard tick again.

Yup its the "HEMI Tick" as previoulsy posted been around since they started making the HEMI again.

You should hear my 2006 Charger RT after it rolled 100K.

I dont hear it so much in the truck yet. Or maybe I am used to hearing it.

I seem to hear the noise the most below the driver and passenger doors. The truck was on the lot for eight months. Should I change the oil at 1000k to synthetic?

I changed mine at 500 miles, but thats my habit from being used to breaking in race engines. You can change the oil whenever youd like, but if it sat for that long i would just for piece of mind
