Default Tailgate Straps Different Lengths???

Brought my truck home from dealer few days ago. Sitting outside checking it out, open the tailgate and notice there is much more tention on the passenger side strap than the drivers side strap. Dealer ordered new ones, went today to have them installed, same result. Tailgate perfect and all connections for straps at exact same measurements on each side. Even the tailgate straps are equal length! Tech said he is going to contact Chrysler and see if they are aware of this. Checked other trucks and they were just about the same. Anyone go and check this on their trucks?

I put a ATV in my bed and am now terrified the tailgate will fall off!

Advise please...........

I have the same issue on my 2012. I'm not sure why they're like that.... As soon as I sit on the tailgate the tension evens out but it seems a little weird that they do that just sitting. My guess is that maybe the cable mounts on the bed or tailgate aren't in the exact same position side to side which causes there to be more tension in one than the other?

I have the same issue but it when I stand on the "slacker" side it tightens up. I also noticed this on my previous trauma. I don't think it will be a problem.

No issues on my 2012, never noticed it was off before, checked now, no issues, wonder if its just over time they stretch to the same length? Steel cable, should not stretch.

I have slack in my driver side as well.

My brother bought a 2013 ford F150 and he noticed it on his driver side and pointed it out to me. My other brother has a 2010 ford F150 and we checked his and it was the same way on the driver side.

Ok so many do have the same problem, some don't. Thats odd. If I sit on the tailgate there is tension on the "loose" strap.

So what do you guys think about driving an ATV up on the bed?

Shouldn't be a problem at all. The cables will still be just as strong as required. As you said, once you sit on the tailgate that cable does tension up so it's not like it's out by much.

Steel cables stretch more than you think.

long ones can act like an elastic band.

short ones will react to weather, moisture and other factors.

but i think it's more a function of the hinge on the tailgate, since it's designed to be easily removed it's not precision fit, so there is play, so it may not sit the same every time.

no need to worry about it falling out, the gate needs to be almost closed to get it out of the hinges (at least my other trucks worked that way)
