Default Shifter Broken

I recently run into a problem in my 2012 big horn. I broke the shifter(center console shifter) off a couple of days ago. Does anyone know how to disassemble the shifter and what may be a good place to find a replacement, aftermarket or stock style?

did you break off the top piece or the part that goes down into the console

If it was just the top piece, look where it becomes the stem that goes down into console
You will see a collar, (a ring), if i recall, you just push down on that collar & you will see how it comes apart.

If you need to get inside of the console itself
First set the Emergency Brake
Then lift out the rubber pad where the floor console & center console meet, you will see 2 screws, don't remove them yet, they will have to come out, but wait a bit
Now look at the console, somewhere just to the right of where you see the shifter pattern, maybe just where the shifter would be in the Drive position, you will notice a little Tab, it will lift up, that is a RELEASE that when you push down on it, you will be able to move the shifter to any position, WITH OUT using the key in the ignition, you may not need to do that either, just wanted you to be aware of its function.

What you do need to do next is, either using your fingernails, a plastic paint scraper, or a plastic trim tool & very carefully start working the large rectangular chrome trim piece around the shifter up, it is the piece that tries to blind you if the sun is at the right angle.

Before you try to lift the complete unit out of the way, check for more screws, like under the back pad, nearest the storage bins

I have not removed any of that on mine as yet, but i may do it just to see what is in there. Besides that, i had a CB radio tech put a cb into the center console & i may need to work on it some day

you can see the little TAB in this photo

It broke off where the threads start which is right at the end of the plastic chrome collar. I know how to take the console apart. There is the small sidecover that is on the d/s of the console but I can't tell how the lever comes out. It's my only mode of travel and I'm trying not to disable it lol.

As i mentioned, the whole top of the console comes off in a matter of minutes
Take it off & see what you need to do, take pictures, slap it back together & go hunting for the part(s), there may be screws under your cup holders, if you have that in yours

This may give you a better idea of what is involved

One of the members on here could help you, they converted their Ram from a column shift to a floor console shift
