Default Best MPG Speed for 2011 4.7L ?

Just drove my 2011 Ram 1500 4.7L 1,300 miles and had MPG's ranging from 15 MPG to 22 MPG, mostly 18.5/19 MPG. Speeds were 65, 75, and some 80's, went to Texas. My truck is still there and I have to drive it back to Las Vegas so my eye is on the fuel costs. Seems like maybe 70 is the best speed for MPG, anyone with a 4.7L figured out the best MPG speed. I know terrain and elevation will affect it but it seems the higher speeds 75+ really suck down the fuel.

Can't say specifically for your truck, but I have found on all the vehicles I have owned, including my 2012 5.7 Sport, the best mpg is at 50 mph. I can increase speed up to 60 mph without a big hit. Higher than 60mph, mpg falls off rapidly.

Wow. 50mph? I hope that's not on the interstate. People that drive that speed become a hazard. 60mph at the lowest for the most part on interstates unless you are the only one on the road.

Yeah, I can't do 50 mph for 1,300 miles, so I'm looking for the best balance between speed and mpg. 65-70 mph may be the best.

Use cruise control only on flat ground. When going up a hill hold gas pedal steady, yes speed will go down but you won't be using alot of extra fuel to maintain speed going up the hill. Going down a hill light pedal only, if possible hold pedal to gain speed to get run at hill.
On a carb you could hook vacuum gauge up and try maintaining highest vacuumm reading forbest MPG. If you could find a port vacuum to hook up vacuum gauge on EFI it will work same way.

I have an 11 4.7L with 50k on it. I find the best mileage between 70 and 75 on the highway on cruise control. Average is around 17.5mpg most of the time. I use cruise on the highway because it keeps the speed more consistent. I have not tuned the truck since I bought it and it had 29k on it when I got it.

Well I did not say I do 50 mph all the time, just that is where I found the best mpg and there is only a slight hit in mpg up to 60 mph, after that the curve gets steeper. Having said that and to respond to your statement, it depends on the interstates posted speed because you are allowed 15 mph under the posted speed limit. So on interstates with a posted of speed of 65, 50 mph is witin legal limits. As long as you stay in the right lane, there is no problem. Typically I find 60 mph (a mile a minute) is a good balance of making time with good mpg. All depends on what is important, a few extra minutes driving or more $ in the pocket.

We are a combined 12.8 with our 4.7 w/3:55 gears. Would like more but once they reflashed our computer the mileage went down!

I hate driving 50 even when the speed limit is 50. When I did my trip from Kansas to Colorado and back I had pretty good mileage just rocking at 70 all the way. When I went to Texas I was going 80-85 and the mileage was pretty crappy.

Just drove the 4.7L 4 x 2 1500 SLT home from Texas to Las Vegas. Mileage varied a bit but it averaged 19.1 MPG. Kept the speed at 72-73MPH. Anything over 75 really hurt the fuel mileage. Not towing and not a lot of weight. I just don't think I'll be cruising over 72-73 on any trips long or short.
