Default Brake Noise, Maintenance or Warranty?

The brakes on my Ram are starting to squeal when braking and I have about 23,000 km on it. Is it time to get the brakes serviced (if so, front or rear or both) or could something else be going on?

The reason I ask is because from day one I notice that whenever a hard braking application occurs, I hear and feel a slight vibration/groan. It could be normal operation and me just not used to factory pads, but I did take a mechanic out not too long ago and he observed it and said it was operating normally and that it is normal.

I think regardless I am past the brake warranty so I will use my mechanic versus a dealership.

The vibration/groan is most likely the ABS system working. You have nothing to lose by taking to dealer.

under hard braking, you will feel a pulsating brake pedal
what causes it is, when a wheel is about to start skidding, the ABS sensor for that wheel slightly relieves the pressure on just that wheel & skidding is avoided
This can be a weird feeling if you are not accustomed to it

One of my jobs when i worked for the State of California, was to help with testing vehicle operation in conjunction with the California Highway Patrol & automotive manufacturers.
It was very interesting to say the least, we had 3 days of testing with the ABS systems

at a later time, we did about a month of testing with driver less vehicles
I drove several different size trucks that were obstacles, i didn't have gear that the cars had, just normal trucks, mostly 10 wheelers

The pressure washer is your friend! The OEM pads are dusty-squeely buggers!

Wow, thanks for that video, GT! My only concern with the self driving car is since the computer in back is running Windows, it might a new meaning to the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death"!
