Default Bench vs Bucket Seats?

Howdy,

I'm new to the truck world and about to jump into a 2013 1500 Crew.

My years of car driving says 'get buckets!' but my practical side says 'having room for a 6th person up front would be hand for toting kids and friends to soccer games'.

Not having much experience with long time truck use, is there a comfort advantage with buckets vs bench up front?

Appreciate the community sharing opinions on this.
Cheers

I have the bench seat in my 2012 and personally I would go with the buckets if I ordered a new truck. 98% of the time it's just me in the truck so the comfort and extra storage of the console would be nice to have. I also like the looks of it a lot better. But it's really up to you on what you find practical and what you like.

I test drove a Big Horn with bench seats and I will be ordering bench seats when they lift the restrictions on a few things. I liked the bench seats and thought they were as comfortable as the bucket seats in my daily driver (2011 Doge Journey). They are not your grandfather's bench seats like in the old trucks. The other reason bench seats are for me is that I don't like the full length center console for 2 reasons- it's a dust/debris catcher and it takes up a lot of space.

Well, it's really going to depend if you are going to really use that extra seat up front. My wife and I used it quite a bit for the extacurricular activities that one can do on those long, long drives........Hahaha! But after about half an hour of sitting in that middle seat up front, it gets uncomfortable on the lower back and tailbone pretty darn quick. And, I remember taking my 5 nephews out to the Gulf for some pier and surf fishing. My one nephew sitting in the front middle seat fell asleep about halfway there and kept stepping on the gas peddle with my foot jammed between the two. So as far as long trips go, three up front gets old real quick. Short run to the local park or family barbecues within 15 minutes, perfect. The storage box in the center console fits a 1911 and box(s) of ammo beautifully! And they don't interfere with your foot pedal.

Bench! The console is just one large piece of plastic. The newer bench seats allow for that 6th person in a pinch, the new center fold down is a lot better design to be used like a regular center console, you can fit a smaller cooler on the floor if you want, and last but not least, it gives you more room up front.

Oh yeah its $250 cheaper!

with the bench on long trips you can move your legs around and such, not constricted by the console,
The wife or girlfriend or boyfriend (if you are a lady) or kid can sit there or lay across or as mentioned other things can happen.

And the drivers and passengers seat is the exact same seat too so the seat in the console package is no more comfy then the bench, just the bench is to me more useful.

I like the bucket seats I dont like a column shifter, unless its old old 3 on the tree... Plus the extra storage is nice, as well as the comfort...

I just shopped trucks (and bought a bench seat, so might be a little biased) and here were my thoughts. Note that I have the "premium" bench seat which adds power driver's side, and I believe storage under the flip up middle seat (the bottom cushion flips up for storage too).

You probably already know, but the driver and passenger seats are exactly the same in both, it's just what they bolt in the middle at the factory.

Bench pros:

-Girlfriend can get up close/lie down/stretch out on long trips, or your dog or kid can sit in the middle.
-Right knee doesn't hit the console
-Room on the floor for a box, cooler, etc
-larger and more cupholders (I think they're larger)
-can sleep two people in the truck instead of only having the back seat
-storage is still really good (under the arm rest, under the cushion, pull out drawer on the lower dash)
-can seat 6 instead of 5
-can slide over to the other side of the truck (I use this a lot actually since my truck takes up the whole garage with about 6" to spare! Also might come in handy if someone parks really close on the passenger side)
-$250 cheaper

Bench cons:

-Looks lower end
-Console has more storage for small knick-knacks.

As you can see, for me, the bench pros outweighed the cons. In my opinion the only benefit of the console is that it looks better. But that's also true of 20" wheels, etc. So if you like the looks more than functionality you may prefer the console!

Up to you! Either is a fine choice.

If I had a back seat I would have def gotten the buckets. Its definitely worth it for the nicer cup holders and massive storage. Sitting up front in the middle sucks for everyone anyway lol. Being only a single cab though the extra seat is valuable to me.

Last truck was a bench, my wife said, oh yeah definately, we can haul the extra kid once in a while, well we only ever had one person sit there in 3 years, it was basically fold the center seat down and us it as an arm rest. This truck has the buckets with the center console, absolutely love the look over the bench along with floor shifter vs the column.
