Really good post, I had always wondered what those little red specs were and now I know why I could not just wash them off or wax it off. TY. I'll watch out for them.

Yup agree, just Wash/clay bar/wash/wax your truck you should be good, 90% of what will be on your paint is brake dust and steel shavings off the road that gets picked up by your tires and the tires of those in front of you, IronX is a nice product and would be good for those with white trucks, but not extremely necessary. If you look at the licence plate in the last pictures, you will see it is also spotted and was not cleaned in the before and after images, Rail dust is a misnomer as vehicles are transported on the Rail system in Carrier Boxes and are not directly hit by actual rail dust. Great post, reps for posting that info.

Well there is a good write up on how to clean it. I will only add that you should NEVER let a dealer tell you they will wet sand anything. Aside from Porsche and a few high end dealers most of the guys that clean and detail the cars are paid nothing. Every one of the big 3 has minimum wage detailers and they actually give the high speed rotary buffers which is scary then add sandpaper and just kiss your truck goodbye. If you find you can't get it all off only go to a professional detailers that can show you a car he just finished and it is his only job. The better they are the more they charge. Now while you doing need a guy who does Bently and Ferrari and wants $1500 to clean your truck a good rule is that you always pay $200 min for the outside of a full size 4 door truck. Anyone who says they'll do it for $100aybe good but most likely not. You do get what you pay for. Always try the clay bar 1st and even light compounds will be ok then you can find a pro if it doesn't work. I paint cars for a living and I don't even like to do my own detailing.

Will the clay bar work on the chrome glad wheels? I just got a 13 and the finish on the wheels is rough. They have little grains of somethin on them.

I don't see why not, I use it on my paint, then do my windows, then finish on my chrome bumpers. Never tried it on some clad wheels but you should do your whole truck and then your wheels last. Clay bars don't come cheap.

Clan bars will work on the wheels. I have actually see detailers clean wheels and after they clay f
Bar the inside where the weight and brake dust are heaviest.

Go with the clay bar. It is easy to do just takes a little time. Good luck!

I have a 2013 ram sport white and had tones of rail dust took me about a hour with quick detailer, clay bar and a micro fibre cloth and all of it was gone and the truck was as smooth as glass.
