That fine print says...

Standard pickup class. EPA est. 25 MPG HWY based on V6 4X2.
5.7L V8 shown EPA est. 20 MPG HWY.
Actual results may vary.
See dealer for details.

But I found this over at fueleconomy.gov

i cruise at about 150 km/h on the highway and according to my handy dandy converter that is 93.2057 mph and my eco light is on most of the time, i have OCD and make sure that eco light is on haha, the key is getting it up to the speed you want, and letting off the gas ever so slightly until the eco light comes on, sometimes its tough cause it gets stuck inbetween shifts, but it will go off if you climb a hill, but it goes right back on, you just have to barely press the pedal, thats why highway is easier, but i also get it in the city too as so much traffic i pretty much just coast, oh and i have the 6 speed

I don't think that ECO mode has anything to do with VVT, as VVT is constantly adjusting in your motor. I believe ECO is just MDS. My 2013 Sport with 8-speed runs in ECO mode about 80% of the time, both city and highway.

If you disable MDS (ie. take your truck out of [d]) -- It'll still say eco... eco has nothing to do with MDS.

Also, anyone find it weird that the letters "MDS" appear only once in the owners manual? Page 639.

I have similar experience as above. Can someone or resident tech please explain in details what it is or for (other than for feeling good about it)?

There are literally dozens of threads on MDS/ECO. Try the search button on the top right of the page.

This is RamTech I'm quoting. Pulled it from our very own ramforumz...

AS OPPOSED TO:

The ECO display will toggle between ECO and ECO-ON depending on driving habits and vehicle usage. Press the

button to change the display from odometer to either of
the two trip odometer settings or the “ECO” display."
