I don't think there is a clear cut better - its depends on what you are looking for.
I like the centifugal type supercharger and had no issues with the Procharger and would choose it again for the Ram. Also, the centifugal types do create more HP than the Roots type. Also, depending on what type of vehicle one may be installing a Roots supercharger - you may have to change your hood.

I have no first hand experience w/Turbo (or Twin Turbo) - they can create some high HP #'s, but since its exhaust powered and not belt driven, the power isn't as instant as a supercharger. They all will cost you some $$$

Positive displacement displacement blowers make almost constant boost. This means you're getting more boost in the lower RPM range. They make more heat, and it's not as easy to set up an intercooler.

Centrifugal blowers make boost proportional to the square of the RPM, so the boost has to build similar to a turbo. They're more thermally efficient and make less heat. As for transmission problems:

a Buddy and I both went with RIPP (centrifugal Vortech V-3) Kits
(4G Ram kit http://www.rippmods.com/ )

comes with everything you need:
  • Vortech V3 Si Trim Centrifugal Supercharger (satin)
  • Vortech By Pass Valve (Black)
  • Diablo Sport Tuning (Intune)
  • Larger injectors (Plug and Play)
  • RIPP MAP sensor (Plug and Play)
  • Water to air intercooler system (Light polish)
  • Large heat exchange pump (Front Mounted)
  • Stainless Steel Idlers
  • Large 9" Air Filter (K&N)
  • 180deg Thermostat
  • Gates Serpentine Belt
  • Polished 3.5" PIPING
  • 4ply couplers (Black)
  • Stainless clamps
  • All Hardware
  • Fully Illustrated Instructions
  • 1 year warranty

Their $4k (bought on sale) kit is a DIY install with basic hand tools
(But make sure you budget an extra $4k for a Built Trans)

My post from about a month ago during the Cinco de Mayo sale...

almost identical truck to mine for mods (see my sig )
but his is a QC4x4, with stock TB and stock torque converter

I Placed my order a few minutes after his first pull printed out
We're both in Edmonton and have an excellent Diablo CMR tuner in Chis at CCMR in Spruve Grove, He has a ton of Hemi experience and has awesome rep for Turbo and Supercharger applications....and can even do BOTH on the same motor...

http://www.ccmrmobiledyno.com/

I have my RIPP kit currently sitting in my basement while MGH from L&M Customs is building a pair of built transmissions for us, complete with ATS Triple Disc 3000 stall Torque converters and a full trans tune with mega clutch pack upgrades, pump and valve body mods to bring pressure up over 200 psi for better holding power.

MGH built a Twin Turbo 4G three years ago and has done a few turbo kits and fixed the broken trans for several supercharged 4G rams.

Here's Mike's build thread... http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=83155

He confirmed with me that Vortech/Procharger centrifugal blowers deliver a more transmission friendly power flow, similar to a turbo and that the roots style like Magnacharger are the worst tranny killers for the Dodge 545RFE's.

Power at low RPM may be a Roots advantage over centrifugal,
...unfortunately that's bad news for a Ram transmission.

But no stock Ram Trans will live very long without some serious internal upgrades and the right tuning.

We'll both be at Castrol Raceway this fall looking for low 12's

EDIT: for the sake of your poll,
.. since the Ripp Vortech most closely matches the ProCharger design,
I voted that way...assuming by supercharger you mean roots style Magnacharger???

Turbo would be my second choice,
but is more expensive and install is not often a DIY project for a shade tree mechanic

BlackHemi,
what are you paying for the MGH trans if you don't mind me asking?

No idea,
He hasn't sent me the bill yet ,
I just told him to make it happen

but I will say it should be substantially cheaper than the ATS deal RIPP was offering (about $4K, +$1400 if you keep your core)
to customers who already had their RIPP supercharger, packaged as their "Stage 3" trans upgrade.

I went for the full blown MGH package including a new Triple Lok ATS 3K stall TC though.
...and opted to keep my core (as a spare). If you gave him a core and used your own TC...it would probably be about $2500-$3000

I can also DYI install now, and save about $700-$1000 install labor,
where as ATS forced you to use their installers or your warranty is void.
L&M Customs (MGH's Shop) doesn't offer a warranty, but from what I read it wont need one
that's likely what keeps his prices lower,
I suspect a large portion of ATS $$$$ goes towards replacing multiple broken units.

Sharadon Stage III kits go for about $3550 (but you get a $300 refund for your core) check moesperformance.com for specs

I had an Eaton on my last Toyota. Loud as hell and terribly heatsoak prone. 1 good blast, then power started dropping. In fact, It would seem to start losing power after an eighth mile. I'd pull a hole shot on everyone, then they would reel me in. Now a Roots type with intercooling, that would be interesting. BTW, my dyno tuner just did a Z06 with 670 rwhp with the Procharger.

I've had my Ripp kit on for about 3 weeks now and love it! Not going too crazy with it just yet for the sake of the trans. Looking forward to getting on a dyno sometime this month. Consistent power, drives like stock, and a welcome surprise was the improved MPGs (as long as you can keep your foot out of it). FUN!

I'm partial to a turbo but I don't think you'll be upset with any boosted setup.

9.5 psi btw
